The board features a high-quality finish in high-visibility colors, which, when combined with Winmau’s proprietary engineered wiring and high-compression tech, improves player accuracy, dart retention, and scoring potential significantly. Overall a beginner player who has never played on a different dartboard may not notice the little cons of these dartboards simply because they do not have anything to compare it to. The Winmau Blade 5 Bristle Dartboard is a popular dartboard used in both professional and recreational dart games. It is manufactured by Winmau, a well-known brand in the darting industry. Unicorn dartboards are made from high-quality sisal fibers, too. However, on some dartboards, the sisal seems a little too soft and on others (like the Eclipse Pro) too hard. In addition to that, I’ve had players report that Unicorn dartboards tend to warp or lose their spider over time.

This used to be Unicorn’s strong points. A few years ago, Unicorn definitely had the better wiring compared to Winmau dartboards. However, today Winmau has caught up. On paper, Unicorn dartboards should make for an excellent choice. However, in reality, things seem a little different.

Not all the blade construction are endorsed by governing darts bodies, that is not to say these boards are lesser or inferior quality. Above are three dartboards that are as good as their endorsed partners. The three I have selected above are all blade construction, however, all three still show the paper or in some cases the plastic veins. The veins are caused by the dartboard construction process. A number of sisal ‘biscuits’ are compressed together to form a dartboard. Where the sisal ‘biscuit’s meet forms the vein. With each new generation of Blade dartboards, Winmau continues to build on top and improve on the wiring of their previous dartboards; what we get is thinner and more durable wires that not only last a long time but also reduce bounce-outs significantly.
