About this deal

Limited Edition O-Card slipcase featuring new artwork by Darren Wheeling [First Print Run of 2000 copies] films, Frank Djeng kind of hilariously gets into how this supposed "series" really isn't by any objective standard, and that in fact due to the Action superstar Donnie Yen and Cynthia Khan team up with legendary martial-arts director Yuen Woo-ping in this fan-favourite fourth entry in the In the Line of Duty film series.

David Chung Chi-Man’s Royal Warriors (aka In the line of Duty) stars Michelle Yeoh ( Boss Level), Sanada Hiroyuki ( Ringu), Michael Wong ( Triple Threat), Michael Chan Wai Man ( Bloody Brotherhood) and Kenneth Tsang ( Chasing the Dragon). In the fan-favourite fourth entry in the In the Line of Duty film series, action superstar Donnie Yen and Cynthia Khan team up with legendary martial-arts director Yuen Woo-ping. In the Line of Duty IV spends minimal time on storyline, retreading the familiar series routine of international police joining on a case, with Khan the righteous, rule-following cop. Yen, as her partner, chooses violence over courtroom justice. It’s ludicrous in a sense as Yen plays an “American” cop from “Seattle,” but that’s rapidly forgotten – In the Line of Duty IV is close to all action, or as close as possible without losing interest in the crime drama entirely. When “In the Line of Duty 4” made it to DVD on the Hong Kong Legends label, it was released as “In the Line of Duty”. How do you top the first two In The Line of Duty films? Easy... bigger explosions, wilder fights and even crazier stunts! This time, two Japanese thieves have fled to Hong Kong with a tough J-cop (Cynthia Khan, Blade of Fury) hot on their heels. It's up to Hong Kong's finest to stop the villains before too much damage is done!

Not available on home video in the UK since the VHS era.Andrew Hernandez on Believer 2 (2023) Review Wow. I know you’ve hated other movies before, but this is flat out contempt!… somewhat chaotic situation leads to an almost farcical state of affairs where the ostensible first film in the series may in fact not be, To be honest, I was a great deal nervous about this release since the new 2K restoration was performed by Fortune Star and not Eureka Entertainment themselves. Fortune Star used to release some upscaled SD masters on Blu-ray in the early 2010s, although their masters have greatly increased in quality since then. And this new 1080p AVC-encoded presentation is indicative of that growth, thankfully. This is a really nice and clean presentation, with film grain being a bit lighter than anticipated, although the levels change during optical effects and the title sequence. Donnie Yen does, of course, steal a little focus. Credit to him and Yuen Woo-ping though, they both clearly know this is Khan’s movie, and give her a ton of hero moments. There’s no need to cut around anything for Yen, and that makes his action flow even better. The fight with Salvitti, and finale fights with Wong and Michael Woods (also in the first two Tiger Cage films, which shot either side of this one) stand out, as does what is essentially a jousting match shot on dirt bikes. The title of this film is confusing. I first saw it on a Hong Kong Legends DVD as In the Line of Duty. HKL had released the first film in the series, Yes Madam, as Police Assassins, then skipped directly to this fourth entry. To be fair to them, it never made much sense to pretend that they exist as part of a series, despite the onscreen title for this one—Royal Madam IV: The Witness—again combining elements of the titles of the first two films.

PLUS: A Limited Edition collector’s booklet featuring new writing by James Oliver [First Print Run of 2000 copies] In the Line of Duty III (Limited Edition) is out on Blu-ray in the UK 20 March 2023 from Eureka Entertainment. There is a chance to read into the Hong Kong/American alliance, wherein the U.S. police immediately turns to fighting rather than arrests. That idea dissipates though as other In the Line of Duty entries did the same, just with other nations like Japan. Each film gives Hong Kong a superior sensibility, and Khan is capable of making her reluctance logical. It’s part of her character, and transitioning between sequels is easier for it. Cynthia Khan stars in her first leading role as a young police officer who goes up against a dangerous duo of Japanese terrorists. After staging an outrageous jewellery heist in Tokyo, two thieves (Stuart Ong and Michiko Nishiwaki) travel to Hong Kong to trade their stolen goods.

This is a m… Now, In the Line of Duty IV, talk about finding your footing again four entries into a loosely connected film series. Yeun Woo-Ping, a hugely talented filmmaker and stunt coordinator, gets the helm in this story of Cynthia Khan in Seattle after some drug smugglers, and this time Donnie Yen is here and plays a hotheaded cop with a sadistic bloodlust. The humor that usually shows up is replaced with adrenaline-fueled action in nearly every other scene, constantly keeping the audience on their toes and not paying attention to the somewhat-thin storyline underneath. And at 95 minutes, it’s all very economical and respectful of the audience’s time. 4/5 Limited Edition O-Card slipcase featuring new artwork by Darren Wheeling [First Print Run of 2000 copies] | 1080p HD presentation on Blu-ray of the original theatrical cut from a brand new 2K restoration | 1080p HD presentation of the original export version from a brand new 2K restoration | Cantonese and English audio options (both in their original mono presentations) | Optional English Subtitles, newly translated for this release | Brand new feature length audio commentary by Asian film expert Frank Djeng (NY Asian Film Festival) | Brand new feature length audio commentary by action cinema experts Mike Leeder & Arne Venema | Archival commentary by Hong Kong expert Stefan Hammond and lead actor Michael Wong | Archival interview with Donnie Yen | New interviews with cast and crew | Archival “Donnie Yen Action” featurette | Trailers | Reversible sleeve design | PLUS: A Limited Edition collector’s booklet featuring new writing by James Oliver [First Print Run of 2000 copies] | * All extras subject to change In the Line of Duty: I - IV Blu-ray offers solid video and great audio in this fan-pleasing Blu-ray release
