About this deal

Personally, I never carry a gas canister bigger than 8 oz. as I will rarely be on a trekking trip that requires more than that. The WindBurner also has an insulated sleeve and handle. Although these are minor additions, they give it a much more user-friendly design than the Reactor. With the PR D, whilst I think it would be foolish to not to take any other form of lighter, so far I haven't needed one - and that's impressive. The tool carefully punctures empty isobutane fuel canisters. It releases any remaining fumes into the air (make sure to do this process outside and somewhere well-ventilated). Alternatively, you could use a hammer and screwdriver, but the canister tool is easier to use.

Push-Start Ignition - Fast, reliable piezo lighting; spark igniter is protected inside burner for maximum durability. Please note that inflatables such as sleeping mats are not considered as faulty if they become punctured during use and are not covered by the manufacturer's warranty in this event. Even if you can’t recycle your canister, trash services prefer crushed cans to ensure that there is no remaining flammable material alongside other trash. A vented can free of fuel is preferable to a non-crushed can regardless of where it goes after you’re done with it. The WindBurner is an intuitive system. Unfold the legs, plop the stove on the burner, and screw the canister into the end of the satellite piping system. That’s right. Unlike the other stoves we considered, the WindBurner is a remote canister stove.

Tent Series

If you own the 1.0 L Personal system or a first-gen 1.8 L system and your stove mounts on top of the canister, you may use these pots:

It’s actually quite rare to find ultralight qualities in a pressure-regulated stove, so it is pretty awesome that MSR was able to finally combine the two concepts. The WindMaster’s regulator is also compatible with gas mixtures such as butane, isobutane, and propane, but is not compatible with 100% propane. Plus, you’ll want to keep the base of the WindMaster clean and always keep the plastic cap on the gas canister when not in use. Get the most out of your outdoor cooking experience with the SOTO WindMaster w/Micro Regulator and 4Flex. The major upside — and downside — of the WindMaster is that it comes with a detachable pot support. The following tip applies to both models of the WhisperLite stove, the SimmerLite stove, and the WindPro stove.

The most significant of these features is the Deluxe’s built-in pressure regulator. This component is one of the secret sauces behind our two bigger powerhouses, the WindBurner and Reactor system stoves. A pressure regulator ensures the stove delivers consistently fast boil times across a range of conditions. The regulator’s job is to minimize the detrimental impacts that environmental factors like cold temperatures have on a stove, keeping the flame burning strong through it all. Push-Start Ignition: Fast, reliable piezo lighting; spark igniter is protected inside burner for maximum durability. The relatively inexpensive Jetboil Flash is the base model integrated canister, but we think it's worth paying extra for the features found in its sibling, the Jetboil MiniMo. Rather than iterations of each other, the PR2 and PR Deluxe are siblings with unique feature sets. Let’s boil (ba-dum-tss) them down to help you choose which stove is right for you.

Best for: Ultralight travel during a wide range of seasonal conditions, including colder conditions Some municipal recycling centers can accept a crushed isobutane canister, but not a full fuel canister. This is their way of making sure that they are getting relatively clean metal instead of an exploding fuel can. Thus, it is essential to crush gas canisters before recycling. Here is my advice: if you are a long-distance, bear-bones dirtbag (no offense, that’s the term) hiker really counting ounces, the Snowpeak Litemax could be the right choice. I say that only from the perspective of weight. I can attest from experience that every single gram is counted when you are trekking hundreds or thousands of miles at a time. Most quality outdoor gear is outrageously expensive. I have spent the better part of the last ten years slowly accumulating the best gear that I can afford. It is always a good idea to invest in quality gear because 1. quality gear typically lasts longer and 2. it always performs at a higher level when you need it to. I repeated these tests a couple of more times using another pot (part of another test to be published later) and confirmed similar results. The tests of the Soto yielded an average time to boil of 2:43 using 9.5g of fuel vs the PRD with an average time of 2:34 using 8.875g.The Soto Windmaster has a three-pronged pot support, which allows it to be used with a variety of pots and pans. It also has a wind baffle which helps to protect the flame from windy conditions. The fine print? Many smaller and rural area municipalities aren’t able to take crushed fuel canisters. In that case, your only option is to throw that metal in the trash. However, many National Park campgrounds have fuel canister recycling collections. Many PCT thru-hikers will save their used canisters to dispose of at the campground at Mt. Lassen National Park, not far from the trail. What we liked: extreme windproofness, fast boil, igniter that never dies, modularity allows for use on solo pots or big group group pots, cooks hotter and faster than other stoves
