As previously mentioned, our Wood Stains are water-based so can be diluted to achieve a lighter shade, or you can mix our Natural Oak and Dark Oak Wood Stains together until you achieve the colour you desire. Although we don’t have a Medium Oak Wood Stain in our range, we would recommend our Natural Oak Wood Stain as a great alternative. There are also different finishes, or "sheens," of wood stain, as with paint. Matte stains have no shine once dry, while satin stains, which are the most popular, have a natural glow but no pronounced shine. Semi-gloss and gloss finishes are the shiniest, but as with paint, shinier finishes generally show off imperfections in the surface underneath. Minwax Polyshades, which combines sealer with the stain, is available in either satin or gloss sheens. By selecting the right stain, applying it evenly, and choosing a suitable finish, you can enhance the natural beauty of oak and create a visually stunning masterpiece. If you decide to condition the wood, remember to use a product compatible with the stain you intend to use.
