About this deal

The thing is that the book isn't boring, and her writing style seems much like her personality: quite pleasant. She just has such a roundabout way of explaining things that makes you forget what her original topic was. Then there are times where she seems unapologetic about some messed up stuff she's done to people. I'm talking life-ruining things she's done to people personally and she just waves it off like it's something small that she will "forgive [her]self for, one day". When I was younger, my friends and I used to say to each other, “You’re never going to be as willing to be as poor as you are right now.” No matter who you are, where you are, what age you are, you’re always going to have more expenses and responsibilities, so you might as well do it now. Take the risk.

This made her brother smile, damn his eyes. “Art can be beautiful to gaze upon,” he said with some amusement. “You, on the other hand, are ridiculous to the eye.”Rhimes decided her weight was another thing that had to change, and though slimming "was hard and not fun", she made up her mind to do it. Shonda dieted, learned to love salads, got a trainer, and eventually lost well over 100 pounds.

There it was. That thing they never talked about. Except when it was happening and they had no choice. In 2007, 2013 and 2021, Rhimes was named by Time on the Time 100, their annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. [4] [5] In 2015, she published her first book, a memoir, Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand in the Sun, and Be Your Own Person.Rhimes is the creator and currently executive producer and head writer of Grey's Anatomy. The series debuted as a mid-season replacement on March 27, 2005. The series features the surgical staff at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital (later to be named Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital), in Seattle, Washington. The series features an ensemble cast with Ellen Pompeo serving as titular character Meredith Grey, who provides narration for a majority of the series' episodes. [20] You give the appearance of a statue,” Adolphus said, smiling as if she had not spent the last three weeks begging him not to marry her off to a stranger. She did not wait for him to answer. They both knew he was not meant to. “If that were not enough,” she continued, “the gown sits atop a bespoke underpinning made of whalebone.” Rhimes next worked on writing Disney's sequel to its popular movie The Princess Diaries (2001). Although The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004) did not score as well at the box office, Rhimes later said that she treasured the experience, if only for the opportunity to work with its star, Julie Andrews. [9] In 2003, Rhimes wrote her first TV pilot for ABC about young female war correspondents, but the network turned it down. I am sure she merely wished to make a good impression upon her future mother-in-law,” Bute demurred. With three hit shows on television and three children at home, Shonda Rhimes had lots of good reasons to say no when invitations arrived. Hollywood party? No. Speaking engagement? No. Media appearances? No. Andreeva, Nellie (March 4, 2009). "Indira Varma to star in ABC's 'Inside the Box' ". HollywoodReporter.com. Also there's one important thing. Shonda Rhimes *knows* her privilege. She lays it all out there. She is writing not about how her life is so great, but about how her life was so great and yet she wasn't actually living it and enjoying it. All of us face some of the problems she confronts in one way or another. Even though some chapters didn't apply much to my life, I still enjoyed listening to her. (She reads the audiobook. I highly recommend it. There are a few parts of the book where she is getting ready for a speech and the book features the live readings of those speeches, which are both really really really good speeches, so that's an added bonus.) And there were parts of this book where I thought, "Yes, that's true, that's something I can change in my own life."

Sinay, Danielle (September 15, 2021). "Time releases its 100 most influential people list". Indy100 . Retrieved November 13, 2021. It is not a great honor. And you could have told them to choose someone else. Someone stupid enough to want it.” Augusta was having none of that. “We are the Palace. A problem is only a problem if the Palace says it is a problem. That is a fact, is it not?” I've always been an introverted person. And I think...the experience of the explosion of those shows and the notoriety or the fame that came with it was very daunting for me. And you sort of curl in on yourself a little bit, and your world becomes a little bit smaller and tighter. And then, on Thanksgiving 2013, Shonda’s sister muttered something that was both a wake up and a call to arms: You never say yes to anything.

In this poignant, hilarious, and deeply intimate call to arms, Hollywood’s most powerful woman, the mega-talented creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal and executive producer of How to Get Away with Murder reveals how saying YES changed her life—and how it can change yours too. George allowed himself a smile. His mother had been born Augusta of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. One could not sit more squarely in the middle of the Continent than Gotha. We had no choice,” he hissed. “ I had no choice. You want a reason? Fine. I have none. There is no good reason. In fact, the reason might be terrible. I know that no one who looks like you or me has ever married one of these people. Ever. But I cannot question! Because I cannot make an enemy of the most powerful nation on earth. It is done.” He leaned forward, vibrating with rage and impatience and maybe even resignation. “So shut up, do your duty to our country and be happy!” Charlotte wanted to ignore him. She’d have liked nothing better than to never utter a word in his direction for the remainder of both of their lives, but even she recognized the futility of such stubbornness. And besides, they were in a carriage in the southeast of England, and they had a long ride both ahead and behind them. Rhimes’s own journey began in suburban Chicago in 1970, where she was born the incredibly shy, youngest of six children to a cultured family in which academic achievement was highly prized. “We didn’t watch a lot of television in our house,” she says. “My parents are education intellectuals and they were not interested.” The children were encouraged to read instead, which Shonda did prodigiously. It came as no surprise when she was accepted at the Ivy League Dartmouth College. She initially intended to be a novelist, but pivoted to study screenwriting in Los Angeles. As she told Dartmouth’s graduating class of 2014: “I couldn’t be Nobel prize-winning author Toni Morrison because Toni Morrison already had that job … [but] I read an article that said it was harder to get into USC film school than it was to get into Harvard law school.” From there she secured an internship at Denzel Washington’s production company and early writing credits on Britney Spears’s 2002 movie Crossroads and The Princess Diaries 2. Charlotte had the oddest sensation that if she were anywhere else, if she were anyone else, she might cry. Yesterday, her tears would have flowed. Hot and angry, with all the passion of her youth.
