About this deal

There is nothing inherently good or bad about wide or narrow viewing angles, but it means that you need to choose a screen that will meet the needs of your anticipated audience -- If you have a small viewing room with two or three seats placed in front of the screen near the zero degree viewing axis, a screen with a narrow viewing angle will be just fine. On the other hand, if you expect people to be viewing from very wide angles, you will need a screen that will give them a bright and relatively uniform picture when seen from the sides--that is, a screen with a very large, wide viewing angle.

Most walls are not perfectly flat, they have ripples that you wouldn’t see, until you shine a light up them at an extreme angle, just like a UST projector does. Then you might see the shadows that give away where the ripples are. But dvLED is not generally suitable for Microsoft Teams Rooms, teaching spaces etc. They are too bright and unsuitable for sustained viewing. Although the brightness can be reduced, this comes at a cost of reduction in dynamic range. The Zero Edge Slate also gave us the second narrowest viewing angle of the eleven, at 46 degrees. Only the Seymour's extremely tight 32 degree viewing angle was more restricted. This means that as you move away from the center viewing position the Slate will lose its luminance and uniformity fairly rapidly in comparison to most of its competitors. However, when viewed at center position it tied for first as the brightest image. Although it is fairly expensive than the other 4K and 8K resolution screens of the same size, it is highly durable and offers superior picture quality.

Do You Need an ALR/CLR Screen?

The MS1000X falls sort of middle of the road compared to the other ALR materials in this group. At 1.0 gain it is not the brightest of the group at center viewing position. And we measured its effective viewing angle in our ambient light environment at 64 degrees. That is about double what you get from the screen with the narrowest angle, but it does not have the advantage of maintaining brightness across a extremely wide viewing angle as the Da-Lite Parallax and DNP Supernova screens do. The development of high contrast ALR projector screens alongside them has led to a step change move away from more tradition standard throw home cinema projectors. The other key advantage of the PolarStar is that, like the EPV DarkStar9, it shows very subtle texture, quite minor compared to the rest of the ALR screens in this group that show texture/graininess/noise artifacts. Like the Parallax, the DNP Supernova offers a trade-off that some buyers will find attractive and others will not -- it gives you the benefits of a clean picture with zero texture artifacts and an extremely wide viewing angle, in exchange for lower contrast and saturation. The good news is that in relatively low ambient light environments, you may be able to offset the contrast and saturation limitations on these screens by using a high contrast projector, thereby ending up with the best overall solution for your particular needs.

One way to avoid the problem caused by ambient light is to buy extremely powerful projectors that are able to provide extremely high levels of luminosity or brightness. overhead light rejection reduces ambient light saturation resulting in a bright, lush image. The Aeon CLR from Elite Screens features thin bezels for a television-like aesthetic. Since it’s a fixed-frame screen, the Aeon CLR-series does require assembly. It’s a bit pricey, though more cost-effective than a drop-down or floor-rising UST projector screen. With a high ALR property, low gain, and stellar built quality, the Aeon from Elite Screens is the best fixed-frame CLR screen available. ALR screens are especially useful in places where ambient light cannot be avoided altogether. For example, in classrooms, especially when the students need to write down things while the projector is in use. Places like conference rooms are also very likely locations for an ALR screen. Setting up this portable inflatable screen is simple. Simply use the included pump to inflate the screen in seconds and attach the screen fabric which can be front (standard) or rear projection (optional) ! See the video below to see how fast this huge outdoor projector screen inflates. This is where ALR screenscome in.Yes, I am talking about Ambient Light Rejecting Projector Screens (ALR). What Are ALR Screens? The ALR (Ambient Light Rejecting) screen material gives a more room-friendly image than most projector screens. Designed for watching at any time of the day, the screen is anti-reflective and ambient light rejecting. This gives a crisper, more detailed image, even during brighter conditions. This gives you projector screen size, but the convenience of a TV. Based on how close to the screen a UST projector sits, you’ll want a specialized screen. Technically, any surface including a wall will work for a screeb. But because of the close distance from the lens to the screen, any minor imperfections will be amplified because of the optics, so screens that aren’t tensioned won’t work. Additionally, because UST projectors throw light up from the bottom of the screen, you’ll need a special type of screen, a ceiling light rejecting (CLR) screen. Create the perfect, discreet home cinema setup, up to 120”, with a Vividstorm S Pro Electric Floor Rising Screen. A unique ambient light rejecting (ALR) screen designed exclusively for UST projectors. ( Non-UST floor rising screens available here)

LIGHT REJECTING TECHNOLOGY

Control the light - darkening the room with window blinds or dimmed lighting will increase the quality of the image. However, this is not always possible or desirable, for example in meeting rooms and teaching spaces where viewers should be alert and engaged. Projecting outdoors can be cold, especially at night, be sure to bring blankets, covers or electric heaters to keep you comfortable and warm whilst you enjoy the movie.
