About this deal

The fact that it has a traditional design is also a big advantage as it allows rotating the blades thrice, thereby extending the life of the cutters. First time I've got a bladeless multi tool plus I bought the brilliant case I'm very pleased with the tool does a great job and easy to deploy, great service as usual from HH good quality ? Non-replaceable wire cutters, the standard Gerber 600’s wire cutters can be replaced once you dull them or notch them up from use. Replacement Parts– Gerber offers a limited lifetime warranty on all their knives, tools, and multi tools. This only applies to the original owner and doesn’t include damage due to wear and tear, misuse, or sharpening of the blades. Both work just fine, the can opener in particular glides through cans with ease, but they definitely could have combined these into a single tool without sacrificing any utility. The bottle opener is weirdly shoehorned into the base of one of the flathead screwdrivers but doesn’t seem to impact the drivers strength or usability.

As with their approach with form, Gerber isn’t going out of their way to make the needlenose pliers and wire cutters anything more than what they should be. They function great, but the wire cutters could benefit from being replaceable (which can be found on other models of the Gerber MP 600 line). With the Gerber MP600 Pro Scout, you will get a unique, single-handed opening plier design containing easy to access internal tools, including the ones already mentioned. It does not have the usual traditional butterfly fold. What it has, instead, is a pair of pliers that slid up from the primary body. The DET isn’t something most people will need. For the highly trained men and women of the US armed forces who do need it though, it’s a useful and well designed multi tool. Gerber mp600 Review MP600 BASIC07510G0-13658-07510-8Multi-Plier 600 - Bluntnose Stainless w/Carbide Insert Cutters & Tool Kit, SheathBox If you’re just looking to do odd jobs around the house we’d recommend you go with the Center Drive. It’s specialized for repair and construction type jobs. The MP600 is an overall more balanced multi tool for the money.I can accept the cons of this multi-tool, especially when I can carry separate wood and steel cutting jigsaw blades to complement the RemGrit blade. Replaceable wire-cutters would have been nice, but honestly, what other tool comes with those, except the Gerber 600. Like most of the other tools on here you can get several different knife blades for your MP600. There’s even a bladeless version for users who frequently enter secured areas. There are straight blades, serrated blades, half straight half serrated, and everything in between. You can choose different blade angles and even go for blunt tipped blades. The Wave+ overall beats out the MP600 on just about every metric. It’s lighter, just as sturdy, has a better tool loadout, and the finish stands up better than the MP600’s. All of this at a price just barely above the MP600’s. The only reason to go with the MP600 over the Wave+ is if you really like the one handed open pliers.

The design of the MP600 makes the ruler less useful that it would be on a traditional butterfly open multi tool. It just comes down to the overall length of the tool’s body. The ruler is 8 cm/ 3 inches long depending on the side you’re looking at. I could not buy it from Heinnie, this time, since it wasn't listed at the time I needed it the most. Sorry HH, next time, for sure. The triangular design allows you to rotate the blades three times to give you longer life on your cutters. Unfortunately the cutters Gerber have come out with don’t seem to be living up to their hype. Numerous users report that the blades struggle to cut through coated wires and are incredibly brittle. So brittle that they often break when trying to rotate them. Knife BladesTool Kit– Many multi tool manufacturers now offer a bit kit to go with a built in bit driver. Gerber has taken the unique step of building a tool kit with bit attachment that fits over their standard phillips head driver. Once in place you can use the included bits for several different screw types and sizes. Made in Portland, Oregon, the MP600 (which stands for multi-plier 600, naturally) is a no-frills multi-purpose tool that cuts, screws, and crimps its way against any problem you encounter. It will not win any beauty contests, but it’s dressed to kill in the stainless-steel blunt nose option I tested. Compared to some other multitools on the market, it does not have the modern engineering look but instead offers a trusted charm. When you are ready to replace the blade (or it is worn out), you can swap it with a choice of blades that are designed for different types of materials – wood, metal, plastics, etc. I bought this the same time as I bought a Leatherman Rebar (Bladeless). I wanted to compare the two and being Leatherman through and through I had already made my decision in my mind as to which one would be on my belt everyday. That was until I used both, even though the tool set on the Rebar feels more robust, the erganomics and general feel of the Gerber is far better. Everytime I used the rebar I would cut or pinch my skin on some edge or whilst closing it. The MP600 is faultless in that manner and earned a place on my belt and the Rebar is in an emergency bag in the 4x4. It always sits funny with us that multi tool makers count a lanyard ring as a ‘tool’. Is it a useful feature? Sure, especially in areas where there’s a risk of dropping your multi tool in water or muddy conditions. But a tool, definitely not. That being said, Gerber’s does exactly what you need it to do and is sturdy enough to support the weight of the tool without issue.

Here's the 26 I have listed, with item and UPC numbers and descriptions, in case the pics above aren't legible. All in all the Gerber MP600 is a pretty good multi tool that falls just short of great. For its price we still think the MP600 is a good value. Its sturdy, has a tool loadout for just about any user, and looks sharp. Performance Comparison

I also noticed how easy it is to maintain each one. Generally, it is capable of offering all the things that anyone wants to get from a multi-tool knife blade. Can and Bottle Openers MP600 BASIC07500G0-13658-07500-9Multi-Plier 600 - Bluntnose Stainless w/ Carbide Insert Cutters, SheathBox It's an efficient way to do business. Kind of like how automakers share body platforms. One handle of the new Center Drive looks pretty much like a CAD copy/paste of the MP600 with added parts. Now they don't have to stamp out 20 different serrated blades. They've got one in two colors that fit into 20 or so models. Would your average collector consider those variations desirable like how SAK-collectors will buy a tool just for the scale colors? Likely not to that extent but it's a windfall for the average consumer who gets what they want without having to buy something else.

The Gerber MP600 Pro-Scout has some outstanding features, namely the ability to accept any 2 inches (or 5cm) universal jigsaw blades and the Fiskars scissors. With a one-of-a-kind construction, useful tools, and Gerber's blade pedigree, the Multi-Plier 600 is an excellent value. The price is moderate, the sheath is included, and the tool will last you years. Keep an eye on the bushings and hinges as they wear and loosen. Like we observed, this can enhance the functionality. But it also comes with some risk of further break-down. ConclusionThe Diesel has scissors and a saw blade where the MP600 doesn’t. If you like one you’ll probably like the other. Deciding between the two really comes down to what tools you think you’ll use more. Gerber mp600 Vs Center Drive There are a total of 26 different variations, consisting of 18 variations of the basic MP600, four versions of the Pro Scout, three different versions of the MP600 ST, and the MP600 DET. The MP600 is 4.9 inches long closed and comes in at 9 oz. That’s a little larger and heavier than some other full size multi tools but not too bulky overall. One of the really interesting things about the MP600 is how adaptable it is. Currently Gerber offers close to 20 different versions of this tool, with different configurations of plier types, finish, tool loadout, and intended use. Gerber mp600 Tools You can also find versions of this product that come with replaceable tungsten carbide blades featuring a triangular design. This blade works perfectly for wires that are stubborn and difficult to cut.
