About this deal

Frey was the god of fertility and birth. When Vikings married, they would ask Frey to bless them with many children. Frey’s sister Freyja was the goddess of fertility and love. In this first idea, we look at exploring the front cover of the book to make predictions and connections. Arthur is counselled by the village elder, who is a woman ( not sure why I'm so taken with that fact!) He becomes adventurous and brave, endlessly interested in his surroundings. He gathers and carries around keepsakes and charms from his adventures and who knows when they'll come in useful. Imagine a vault so cavernous that it could contain all the world's greatest treasures and relics, from mummified remains of ancient monarchs to glistening swords brandished by legendary warriors. Who could be in charge of such a vault and how did he come into possession of such a unique collection? Who is...Professor Brownstone? Children will love the sense of adventure created through the brilliantly vivid illustrations alongside learning facts about this particular period in history. Beautifully illustrated book! A captivating tale of a heroic journey of a young boy that must travel through the Nordic gods' realm to save his village. He ventures through the magical woods collecting magical things. One day Arthur finds a terrifying beast destroying the city and injuring people! What shall Arthur do now? This book is fantastic! […] Arthur is just too cute and for any unpopular kids out there, this book will encourage them to embrace their uniqueness because as unlikely as Arthur is, he’s the town’s hero! Welcome to Professor Brownstone’s vault – containing ancient relics from around the world, all collected by his famous ancestors! Príbeh o Artúrovi, ktorý napriek svojmu veku dokázal preľstiť a poraziť veľkého, nebezpečného Fenrira, pri lapení ktorého zlyhali samotní bohovia, by nemal chýbať v žiadnej knižnici.

In this idea, pupils take some of the assumptions of the townsfolk and think about how stereotypes affect them. Arthur, a small boy fascinated by the magical tales of the town's wise woman, is out exploring one day when he's startled by a terrible howl. Too late, he watches as a huge wolf, Fenrir, puts out the village's great fire, meaning that the village faces being frozen solid in a week - unless a Viking god relights the fire. Kids love the illustrations and story. I've since realized that this is the second book in a series, but the first is no where to be found. I hope we can eventually locate a copy of the first book.In this idea, pupils put themselves into the role of the town's people and share their thoughts on Arthur. Berserk Tyr was the Viking God of War. Warriors called Berserkir prepared for battle by wearing bearskin cloaks and working themselves into a frenzy. Today, you are going to be reading part one of Arthur and the Golden Rope, a book you are going to be using in English all week. In maths, you are going to learn what is meant by area and solve some problems. Plus in science take the chance to go on a sound walk around the house or outdoors. You are also going to learn about the only British king with 'the Great' after his name. This is an 12-session Literary Leaf for Arthur and the Golden Rope by Joe Todd Stanton which covers all aspects of the Lower Key Stage 2 content domains. Throughout the sequence children will be provided with opportunities to develop skills of retrieval, inference, summarising and sequencing through taking part in class discussions, completing practical activities and answering questions. They will also explore the meanings of new vocabulary in context and be able to draw links with other areas of the curriculum, for example the study of the Vikings in History. Synopsis of Text:
