About this deal

War, betrayals, family drama and politics are very difficult to be written within a book without a lot of researches so Williams has managed to bring us a very rich and powerful novel that will make you tear lots of times! The main character of the book is Lulu, who heads to the Bahamas in the early 1940s! Royalty, murder investigation, romance is so well crafted in the Lulu parts of the book! These moments are really suspenseful and in the meantime romantic! Okay, 2.5 stars. This book was really, really slow to start. In fact, I would say I didn’t actually become interested in all of the storylines until 3/4s the way through. The only thing that kept me going was Elfriede’s story. Katie has my heart yet again!! This is her second book and just as amazing as her first, which I had zero doubt about. The stories of two remarkable women a generation apart are cleverly intertwined in Williams’s sweeping family saga...Williams illuminates the story with exotic locales and bygone ambience, and seduces with the irresistible Windsors. Readers will appreciate the wartime espionage that keeps the suspense high." — Publishers Weekly

The Golden Hour - Beatriz Williams

sheyanne, in the beginning, she’s not written as character meant to be instantly liked but you’re supposed to learn to love her. the rough edges and all. i think that’s what makes this whole story even better, that when you come out at the end your opinion of her will never be what it was from the start. she’s such a strong character and there are aspects of her personality i resonated with and i think the hope you get from reading her development as well as the love story is just amazingOh how I adore this author, her gorgeous writing, compulsively readable plots, stunning covers, and I wondered, “Can she do it again?” Indeed she can and she did with THE GOLDEN HOUR, set inventively in Nassau, WWII intrigue swirling ‘round the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, multilayered plot lines also weaving in the War to End All Wars. Plus this stunning publisher’s note, best I’ve ever read, whose writer must write his or her own novel! This is my third book and favorite so far of Beatriz Williams!! I loved the historical settings of WWl and WWll, including the Duke and Duchess of Windsor with their quite interesting and highly decadent lifestyle, and it’s two main characters that alternated between Elfriede during the turn of the 19th century undergoing dark turmoil after giving birth (postpartum depression now); and in the 1940’s there’s Lulu a NYC writer currently living in Nassau to catch the latest gossip on the scandalous Duke and Duchess (the Duke was banished to the Bahamas to serve as it’s governor.) A marriage, a murder, and a disappearance sets Lulu’s story off in a new direction regarding secrets, government spies and a slight nod of deception.

The Golden Hour: A Novel by Beatriz Williams, Paperback

Manuel is a tweenish(?) boy in Middle America dealing with PTSD after a traumatic event at school. He finds relief through photography and by making some new friends, one of whom lives on a farm and introduces Manuel to rural life and group activities in a club which is not 4-H (*cough*but is 4-H*cough*). It's a slow but effective tale of healing. I don't have enough words to explain everything this book made me feel, it's absolutely beautiful and I can't wait for everyone to read Liam and Sheyanne story🤧

There was a nice emphasis to Manuel to focus on an 'anchor'. I liked the anchors he chose to calm himself. I like that his friends were so helpful. An itsy-bitsy amount of lgbt squeaks very quietly into this story as Manuel befriends Sebastian. Young readers might not even notice this happening. thank you so much katie for an arc 😭 i’m not emotionally ready to talk about this but let’s try anyway. i loved this book more than words can explain. it’s easily become my favourite book this year and it will stay with me forever. Hannah’s new novel is an homage to the extraordinary courage and endurance of Frenchwomen during World War II. The most powerful success factor of personal development and lifelong success has to do with the “golden hour” of your day. Lulu says of the Duchess of Windsor, “Women like Wallis never, for a single moment, imagine themselves guilty of anything.” What is Wallis guilty of? Why does Lulu hold her in such contempt? What did you think of her and the Duke? When they appear in the last scene of the book, does Lulu have any sympathy for them at all? Do you?

Starting tomorrow, arise each morning at least two hours before you have to be somewhere, and invest the first golden hour in yourself, and in your mind. If you exercise physically each morning, do this before you begin to exercise mentally. I was first drawn to The Golden Hour for both the setting in 1940s and also featuring theDuke and Duchess of Windsor. I really didn’t know much about them until I watched season one of Netflix’s The Crownand let’s just say they were quite the complicated couple.Memory, it turns out, is unreliable. All on its own, your memory gathers up helpful details that match your recollection of an event, whether or not those details actually existed at the time. But does it matter?" A main character of the book, Lulu, heads to the Bahamas in the early 1940s in the hopes of gaining traction with the royal couple to share gossip with her US magazine readers. She finds a world full of intrigue, WWII spies, a botched murder investigation, and strained race relations on the island. Of course, there is some romance in the book as she crosses paths with the mysterious Benedict Thorpe. I found their island love story very romantic!

Sheyanne is forced to confront her demons and her past relationships that have faded into nothing in the years she’s been gone. And she is forced to confront Liam. A man here on limited time, who seems to see straight through her defenses. He is cool, calm, and collected, and there for her every step of the way. liam was the sweetest guy ever I LOVED HIM. i need my own liam landon in my life. he was so loving and patient towards sheyanne and would do absolutely anything for her. their relationship was so beautiful and i literally cried at multiple parts during this book. What motivated Elfriede to disappear after Benedict’s birth? Was it the right decision to make? How would Benedict and Margaret have turned out had she stayed and raised them?sheyanne (!!!) i love her sm🥲 i feel like many people would be able to relate to her, her growth, HER in general. i seriously can’t even put into words how great i think she is
