About this deal

I can’t say why some writers are able to penetrate my thought process and why others seem trite, but I enjoyed this for more than just the mystery aspect. I'm adding Lucy Clarke to my 'be on the look out' list. Readers get a glimpse into each character’s minds and motivations. This was interesting and a nice touch. It could have been messy with so many characters, but the author made it flow nicely. Sam’s death was medical malpractice. Bella had been the nurse on duty and prescribed him the medicine he was allergic to.

Having read and really liked all of Lucy Clarke’s other books I was eagerly awaiting her next book, sadly One of the Girls did not deliver. If we'd been more astute, if we'd listened more closely, if we'd not turned away from her - from ourselves - we could have stopped it. That's what makes this so much worse. We could have changed it. It was then that she decided to set up Bright Green Enterprise, her own company that worked with secondary schools delivering social enterprise events. Thanks to Penguin Group Putnam, Lucy Clarke and NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review* This was a semi closed room mystery that leaned more toward a character study than thriller. While I’m not always on board with character driven books, I was immersed in this one and enjoyed it a lot. Shades of Big Little Lies, there were troubling undercurrents of each character and all were lying about something.

I loved One Of The Girls: beautiful writing, suffused with menace, complicated female heroines, and an ending I couldn’t predict.” — Gillian McAllister, bestselling author of That Night It is in turn haunting and gorgeously scenic as it tells the story of freedom, friendship, and a desire to leave the past in the past.Thank you to PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, G.P. Putnam's Sons and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own. Female friendships under the scrutiny of the Greek sunshine, this is an engrossing thriller with so many unexpected twists and turns.” — Lisa Ballantyne, bestselling author of The Guilty One

Robin and Bella had hooked up one night, but Robin pretended it didn’t happen because her parents disapproved. According to the author, “The Seas Sisters” which was published under Harper Collins in 2013 was inspired by her love of the ocean and her travel journals.Bella set the weekend up, with the help of her girlfriend Fen, whose aunt owns the villa. Bella has been best friends with Lexi since she, Lexi, and Robyn were in school together. They are being joined by the groom’s sister Eleanor and Lexi’s friend Ana for this celebration of Lexi’s upcoming wedding to Ed. Lexi asked that they forego the usual hen party games and just enjoy the weekend. Bella agrees, but she has some secrets that she’s neglected to mention to the bride. The lead is Katie, a woman whose world is shattered when Mia her younger headstrong sister is found dead in Bali. According to the police, the death was a suicide but she does not believe any of it. Female friendships under the scrutiny of the Greek sunshine, this is an engrossing thriller with so many unexpected twists and turns.”— Lisa Ballantyne, bestselling author of The Guilty One Moreover, the whole book carries a distinct pro-female, anti-male tone that feels a lot more like an inserted author bias than the opinions of the characters, which makes it painfully easy to draw a map of what will happen at the end. Overarching themes are fine; overarching themes that make the story predictable are...less fine. But for the sake of not spoiling, I promise not to say anything further. I just prefer books that are more mysterious throughout, including the end, such as You Are Not Alone and Final Girls. By this time, she already knew that she wanted to become a fiction author but needed money to support herself.

There really isn't much of a mystery at all. We begin knowing that someone will die and they are possibly wearing red. That is known from the very beginning. Someone somewhere has information on what happened all those years in the past and what has transpired in the intervening period. Overall this is a good easy read and maybe a perfect novel to take poolside as you sip the drink of your choice. Ed showed up to tell Lexi about Ana. It came out that he had bullied and abused Eleanor for their whole lives, and he was responsible for the injury that put Sam in the hospital the night he died. Ana had gotten pregnant with Luca when Ed raped her. The story is set on a beautiful Greek Island, where six women were on a hen weekend travelling from London to the Greek island of Aegos for four nights, a weekend bachelorette party.I soon grew tired of hearing about how gorgeous and charming Lexi was and how her BFF is so protective of Lexi's time and how wild she is. One of the Girls follows a group of women on a hen weekend for Lexi. But there are many hidden secrets among the women, will they all make it home safely? Lucy Clarke goes from strength to strength; this utterly addictive, trouble-in-paradise novel is her best yet. The plot shifts like sand beneath the reader’s feet.” — Erin Kelly, bestselling author of Watch Her Fall In the interest of complete honesty, this was not a book I enjoyed. Just for context, I say this as a 22-year-old woman whose favorite genre is thrillers with female main characters, which is precisely what One of the Girls is.
