Lawson's depiction of all her characters, their thoughts and their actions, make them so incredibly believable! I loved following Bo's character as a typical toddler. Her antics were hilarious. Update after reading it a second time: even more moved the second time. This book grows with the reader. This novel opens our thinking and hearts - for sure- when disappointments happen, when the rug is pulled out from under us, and we bump up against ourselves (our own worse enemy) The Crow Lake community opened its arms wide to the Morrison children after their parents were killed. How does this generosity conflict with the community' collective reaction to Laurie Pye' disappearance? Why is this? Miss Vernon’s stories about the history of Crow Lake suggest that some patterns can never be broken. How is this true and/or false for the Pyes and Morrisons?
