About this deal

Our Classic Freehub Grease is specifically designed for all freehubs that require a light weight grease. These style hubs we like to call the more mechanical hubs. Unlike the simpler, fewer parts of the Pawl style hubs. Dumonde Tech Freehub Grease performs in a broad temperature range from the heat of summer, to the frigid temperatures of the north. “Pour Point” of Freehub Grease is -30 degrees.

Grease threads of end cap. Thread end cap onto axle. NOTE: End cap is a left hand thread. Secure end cap to 300 inch-pounds. Free hub seal grease . This is not for freehubs in general but is specifically for Shimano's Microspline seals, and for specific seals there. The datasheet gives the same basic constituents as the previous one, but it might be different. Basically a good quality oil is always better but it also will be displaced and dissolved more easily so it requires more frequent maintenance. If you find an item at a lower price with another commercial internet retailer, you will receive it from us at the same price, provided the conditions listed in the link are met.

However, the teeth will need to be smaller, as will the pawls, so some brands use pawls with multiple teeth to spread the loads, or they offset the pawls in a multi-phase configuration so that not all pawls engage simultaneously, thereby reducing the angle of engagement. For some riding, a high number of points of engagement (and hence a small angle of engagement) is considered desirable. The simplest way for a manufacturer to achieve this is to increase the number of teeth on the drive ring.

Once you have a clear view on all of that you can fiddle around with various lubes, change your cleaning method etc. BTW in the procedure I outlined in the post above, after having used the thing for a couple of weeks with oil in , you service the hub bearings like you were going to do anyway. So you can have grease in the main bearings, and a different lube in the freehub if you want. With most shimano and shimano clone freehubs, whatever lube is in the RH hub bearing ends up in the freehub body, provided it is fluid enough. With my Shimano freehubs I just remove them from the hub, remove the rubber seal from the rear and squeeze grease into the recess behind the seal until it comes out of the other end of the freehub (the bearing cup), and clean out the purged crud before greasing the bearing cup. I think using oil in the freehub bearings risks diluting the grease in the cup and cone hub bearings which sit inside the freehub, as there does not seem to be any seal between the freehub pawls and the hub bearing. Shimano freehubs can be serviced to an extent, but when they’re worn out, you’ll officially need a whole new freehub as they’re not designed to be disassembled, even if it is technically possible. Freehubs from Campagnolo and other brands are easier to service.
