Another thing that is just fantastic about this book is the use of metaphor. It compares anger to a fire you might want to stomp out, sadness to a rainy day, and calm like leaves swaying in the wind. The Feelings Monster Pattern Tracing Activity - Invite children to practise pencil control as they trace over the dotted lines shown on the monsters with this handy Feelings Monster Pattern Tracing Activity. Children can also be encouraged to talk about how they think the monsters are feeling, while they work on their fine motor skills. You can ask them to use coloured pencils to trace over the lines to match a colour to how the monster is feeling. For example, the happy monster could be decorated using yellow pencils and for the angry monster, children could use red pencils. Next, each child should have a paper plate colored to look like a pumpkin, with a slice cut out to make it appear as if the top is opening. Think of other emotions and choose colours that might represent them (e.g. frustration, disgust, envy).
