About this deal

The headband does a great job of distributing the headphone pressure. However, because it is made of vinyl, it does not adjust to sit on top of the head properly like real leather. However, I find no problem with this because the headphone is light and also comfortable. For people with large heads, the headband I think will not fit great, and the self-adjusting headband will also cause problems. Samson includes the option of disengaging the rubber tension bands that links the earcups to the headband. This should ease the pressure created.

If we were to compare these two, we’d say that they’re pretty close in terms of build quality. They’re decent, they’re worth their price, but things could be better. They’re also much more comfortable to wear. We recommend the Superlux. Samson SR850 vs. Audio-Technica ATH-M20x Precision. Performance. Practicality. The Samson SR850 Pro Studio Headphones are built for the most critical pair of ears. Whether you're monitoring a performance, mixing a session, or just listening to music, you'll get professional audio reproduction. Every. Single. Time. The SR950 and the HD681 sound very similar despite one being open and the other being closed. Both emphasize the highs and deemphasize the lows and mids compared to the HD668B. The SR950 is not fully closed; without music, I can still hear some external sounds but at a lower volume than in any of the other 3 phones. Detail is high in both and comparable to that in the first sibling pair. First off, Samson’s SR850 headphones cover the entire audible spectrum and more. Going from 10 to 30000 Hz, they go beyond what you can hear. Although it seems redundant, this enables a better distribution of frequencies in the audible spectrum. Additionally, you can also “feel” some of the bottom-ends, not just hear it.Product 1: Proprietary large 50mm drivers with rare earth magnets deliver an extended frequency response and great dynamic range MIDS :: im not sure how to explain the mids... but i haven't had an issue with the sound( middle frequencies ) Then again, this honest review Samson SR850 review has been long due and I must put them into writing now. Samson SR850 vs AKG K240: How Do These Headphones Compare? Samson SR850 vs AKG K240: How Do These Headphones Compare?

The pads are where the budget comes into play. The pads are decent, they are relatively large, definitely envelope the ear with some room to spare both in circumference and in depth. The material is another vinyl type material with a semi-soft foam inside. They're not super soft, but they're not hard. The vinyl material is the only part of the build quality that sort of makes me grimace, but that is because I'm hyper sensitive to non-velour/velvet pads. I don't even like the AudioTechnica M50's pads, to give you a reference point. So this fault is more my preference, not necessarily a fault of the headphone for someone else who prefers non-cloth pads. If we’re talking about comfort, Samson’s SR850 headphones are easily one of the best choices within this price range. They’re easily adaptable to different heads and there’s hardly any chance you’ll have trouble with them. HIGHS :: the highs could use a little work in my opinion in not really sure how to describe it but i just wasn't impressed with the highs but after some EQing they are more than acceptable no real qualms here after the EQ spatial is incredible, Wide staging, with extremely accurate pin-pointed sound source. This is the only speaker that can gave me illusion of a center speaker (new sound source) emerging in the center of my front wall. Samson SR850 studio reference headphones offer an excellent listening solution for musicians, sound engineers and general music enthusiasts. With outstanding bass response and clean, clear highs, the SR850 headphones ensure complete comfort and accurate monitoring performance.Neither of these two headsets are foldable. We’re not talking about stuff that was designed to fit snuggly into a carrying bag. But on the other hand, portability is noticeably better with Samson’s SR850. If that’s one of the most important traits you’re looking for, then these are the better choice between the two. Overall, the Samson SR850 are great sounding headphones at this price range. The bass is present, but do not expect it to be punchy. The mids are generous and the treble response seems to be the only weak point. Overall, it is a sort of a bright headphone. The soundstage is pretty good, though it is a semi-open headphone, which is to be expected. Let’s delve into the details below. Low-End (Bass) We have headphones that clamp just tight enough over your ears. But they’re not unbearable even after long sessions. This is not something that you find that often with budget-friendly studio headphones. Comfort is one of their stronger sides. Comfort: AKG K240 When it comes to treble, let’s just say that these headphones are… wonky. The entire region is exaggerated, making the low-highs sound harsh and the mid-highs piercing.

There was something odd to me about the SR850. They have the soundstage size of an open headphone, they leak like an open headphone, but the sound has "air" more like a closed headphone. Once in a while, a headphone comes along that costs minimal but hits way way way above its weight and into the realm of some much pricier competition. In this case, we have the SR-850 which has been “2p modded” and “cup clearance” to produce impressive open sound for audiophiles on a budget.

Comparison Table

The semi-open design of Samson SR850 provides an enhanced ambient listening environment, allowing appropriate bleed for better stereo imaging and a wider sound stage. The 50mm drivers also offer exceptional sound reproduction and wide dynamic range to instill confidence in your final mix or simply provide outstanding sound quality for your general listening pleasure. The treble of the SR850 is what I found to be too bright and forward at times. This makes the headphone sibilant and also fatiguing pretty fast. However, I only experienced this when using the headphone at a higher volume. For normal listening, this problem is pretty nonexistent. So if you listen to headphones very loud, you should keep that in mind when choosing the SR850. On the upside, the treble is airy and has good details which make the headphone interesting and clear. Soundstage Next difference is internal airflow management..... this gives the headphone little bit more air than normal(superlux have complete openish design giving rather edgy treble) However, because the material can’t breathe, you get sweaty ears after an hour of use. We mainly played games on them, and we needed to take breaks once our ears began to ache.
