Blood is spilled. Too many innocent people are massacred violently! I know this is not a sweet, soft reading but I felt like watching first 23 minutes opening scene of Saving Private Ryan over and over again! Yes, this book is a great test how far you survive with low pain tolerance. The Dragon Republic is a grimdark fantasy novel written by R. F. Kuang and published by HarperCollins. The book was published on August 6, 2019, as a sequel to The Poppy War. He’d desperately wanted to explore those caves for years—and today would be the day to do it, when everyone was too busy to pay attention. But it was his responsibility to protect Mingzha. He’d never been trusted to watch his brother alone before; until today he’d always been too young. But this week Father was in the capital, Jinzha was at the Academy, Muzha was abroad at the Gray Towers in Hesperia, and the rest of the palace was so frazzled over Mother’s sudden illness that the servants had hastily passed Mingzha into Nezha’s arms and told them both to keep out of trouble. Nezha wanted to prove he was up to the task. R.F. Kuang's fresh approach to magic and hard-hitting story is a punch to the gut fantasy has needed for a long time. I can't wait for THE DRAGON REPUBLIC'

the writing is a delight, as well. it feels so fresh, which should be impossible given the subject material. but the writing takes a historical influence and makes it feel modern. With no other options, Rin joins forces with the powerful Dragon Warlord, who has a plan to conquer Nikan, unseat the Empress, and create a new Republic. Rin throws herself into his war. After all, making war is all she knows how to do.

But neither the Empress nor the Dragon Warlord are what they seem. The more Rin witnesses, the more she fears her love for Nikan will force her to use the Phoenix’s deadly power once more. Enthralling from start to finish ... I thought myself prepared. I was now. R.F. Kuang's debut is a masterful must-read, and I've no doubt the best is yet to come' If nothing lasted and the world did not exist, all that meant was that reality was not fixed. The illusion she lived in was fluid and mutable, and could be easily altered by someone willing to rewrite the script of reality.” The 19 Best Novels of 2019". pastemagazine.com. 2019-12-19. Archived from the original on 2021-11-02 . Retrieved 2022-04-14. overall, this is a brilliant sequel. i can tell kuang has grown as a writer since her debut. she was strong before, but now she is straight up lethal and i fully expect the next book in the series to be the death of me. The previous book ended with the invasion of Rin's homeland. [1] The book details Rin's experiences with opium addiction and her intentions to murder the Empress. [2] However, Rin now has the power of the Phoenix and is the commander of the Cike. [3] Rin is captured by Yin Vaisra, the Dragon Warlord, who intends to conquer Nikan. [9] Reception [ edit ]Then he saw a dark shape rising before the grottoes, and heard a voice that came from nowhere and vibrated his very bones. I’m cringing slightly as I write this. 45 people on my friend’s list have read this and 3 have given it a rating below 4. This is by far the most unpopular opinion I’ve had, apart from my ‘Rhythm of War’ review. So, let me explain myself. You can agree or disagree and we can continue conversing amicably with a slightly salty undertone. This is life, and it’s fine.

Kesegi, Rin’s step brother, brings Rin to the Warlords. They want her to join them as they flee. They don’t trust Vaisra’s campaign any more. Rin refuses. As she’s leaving, she spots a Hesperian soldier raping a young girl. She kills the soldier and throws his body in the canal. locusmag (2020-10-18). "Ignyte Awards Winners". Locus Online. The Hesperians are given guns by Chaghan’s cousin, Bekter. They start shooting and the Sorqan Sira is killed. Bekter and his men will be telling everyone that Rin did it. Qara is also shot, so the twins break their bond. Rin is so many things that you don’t want your protagonist to be. She’s hypocritical, contradictory, apathetic, unintelligent and gullible. Her inner-monologue is a never-ending string of non-sensical idiocy and morally devoid ideology. This is getting a bit long but here’s a few key scenes/quotes that really put me off Rin: Daisy Ridley To Star In Survival Thriller From Zak Hilditch, The Penguin Empire and Campfire Studios; Neon & UTA To Shop At AFM

You may also all call me president of the Fang Runin defense and protection squad. I live my life for one sneaky snake, and it is her. Also, Kitay, my baby, will love and cherish and protect at all costs. Also, seeing the way that this world has changed him has broken me beyond repair, but his friendship with Rin means everything to me. Not at the way I was praying for his life throughout the last half of this book though. For one thing, the book’s Poppy Wars and their Hesperian relations are reminiscent of the Opium Wars, which were Europe’s early attempts at western colonisation of China during the reign of the Qing dynasty. Not only that, but Kuang also shows the shift in Europe’s attempts at colonisation through history, from forceful penetration in the 19th century to the economical coercion and civilising mission of the following years. The racism and greed inherent in those intervening, invasive hands seeking control of the resources of prosperous eastern lands excused by beliefs in the superiority of the White race is an infuriating and uncomfortable topic to witness for anyone of any ethnicity, and Kuang fearlessly lays its every preposterous audacity bare. The saddest thing about The Burning God is that you can very clearly tell that Rin and Nezha both believe in the utter righteousness of their paths, and nothing and no one is going to sway them. They may love each other deeply, but in the end, even that is not going to stand in their way. I was nervous going into this book that it wouldn't be as great as the first one but here we are... No, you’re confusing her attempt to throw the television into the trash and write a threatening letter to GOT writers.
