While this will depend on the kit you are using and your wi-fi limitations at home, transmitting audio over wi-fi rather than Bluetooth comes with certain benefits: wi-fi doesn't have as limited a signal range as Bluetooth, generally facilitates better sound quality and is capable of transmitting higher-quality audio (Bluetooth is not widely capable of transmitting CD-quality or above music). I have listened to Elvis Costello since My Aim is Trueon speakers and systems, great and small. Elvis Costello sounded like Elvis Costello on the Cleer Scene but came across with a deeper, richer tone than he owns on the Dali Katch G2, even in clear mode. I don’t want my speakers to interpret my artists, (which I know they all do to an extent), but the Cleer Scene produced the Elvis Costello I want to listen to. Winner:Cleer Scene. Features
If all you want from a decent outdoor speaker is portability and affordability, you really couldn't do much better than the excellent Tribit Stormbox Micro 2. A tiny, satchel-friendly Bluetooth speaker, this is easily one of the best we’ve tested at this meagre price point. Proof that you don't have to sacrifice a premium look and feel for portability, the Dali Katch G2's compact dimensions, stylish retractable travel handle, and 30-hour battery mean it could easily be your go-to travel speaker. However, if you've got a big, spacious room that you want to fill with sound at decent volumes, a bigger speaker with a higher watt output will likely serve you best. How does a Bluetooth speaker work? Vocals are three-dimensional and emotive. Stream Berwyn’s Heartache & Chest Pains, and while the pensive keys are accurate across the frequencies and held dutifully within the cohesive mix as the beat comes in, vocal stylings are central, textured and nuanced.
The only issue is that it can start to suffer from distortion at louder volumes, but we found it to be one of the best-value options if you’re really on a tight budget. Really impressive stuff. Based on a very strong neodymium magnet, the 21 mm light-weight soft dome takes up very little cabinet space while retaining a large membrane area. Both factors are extremely important in the DALI KATCH G2. The compactness of the treble driver leaves more space for the bass drivers.
The internal Li-Ion battery has a total capacity of 3300 mAh, letting the DALI KATCH G2 play at normal volume for a long as 30 hours. The battery is replaceable and is manufactured by a quality battery brand manufacturer for the best possible stamina. Charge time is a little over 2 hours with the supplied charger. This means that the fundamentals of the Katch G2 are largely the same as they were in the original. The DALI is a slim flattened oval that contains a 21mm soft dome tweeter and an 89mm mid bass driver that has been designed to offer as long a throw as possible. This in turn is augmented by a passive radiator to give the DALI as much radiating area as possible. Each driver gets its own 25 watt Class D amp to drive it which, both in the original Katch and here too, seems to be more than sufficient.
Positioning is critical as the sound comes out of both sides and gives a wide sound, but does vary as you move you or it about. It's hard to get it just right so I'll enjoy experimenting. The original DALI Katch was one of the best Bluetooth speakers in its class. The Katch G2 takes all that’s great about the original – great sound, unique style and long battery life – and makes it even better. Improvements to the sound, connectivity and battery life simply make the best better still. Besides the sound quality of a Bluetooth speaker, which we test with every genre of music from classical to pop, we also scrutinise other aspects of its design, including battery life, the robustness of its Bluetooth connection, how easy it is to use and set up, and finally how well built it is. Our review philosophy doesn't change whether we're evaluating a basic, budget Bluetooth speaker or a more premium model.
