About this deal

The following year, a Lawrence Newall – son of Lawrence Newall of Town House – is shown in ‘Burke’s Landed Gentry’ as ‘Lawrence of Hare Hill’, suggesting that the house was in place. It would have been two-storeys with a frontage similar to that at Town House. This is what gave us so very many theories to discuss. Either everything is precisely what it seems or nothing is what it pretends to be. I love the ambiguity. Though it won’t be for everyone. This is a quiet creeping novel that can be many things at once. And it gave us so very much to talk about. As anyone who has lived in the countryside will know, it is delusional to imagine, as Sally Hinchliffe’s middle-aged, female protagonist does in Hare House, that it harbours “a place of peace, where I might find refuge”. Rural communities seethe with as much intrigue as city offices and staff-rooms, and landscape is as menacing as cityscape.

Great location close to shops, pubs and restaurants - loved the quirky rooms but mind low doorways." Exceptionally comfortable beds. Warm, very well equipped kitchen. Very comfortable stay. Would definitely return. As we learn that our nameless narrator has fled London and her previous job at a private girls’ school in mysterious circumstances, we begin to wonder what made her sixth-form class of fresh, young girls fall down “like petals from a rose”. Who was the victim of this mass fainting? The seasoned teacher grown bitter as love turned sour, or the smirking teenage girl with a “high, light silver” laugh? The cottage, which is one of two properties on the same complex, has a wonderful homely feel. The kitchen/diner is sleek and stylish with everything you need to cook up a storm and eat at the reclaimed oak table. Calming, neutral tones in the lounge make it warm and cosy; fire up the wood burner and sink into the sofas, curling up with a good book or watching your favourites on the TV while your canine companions snooze on the rug. Take a relaxing soak in the stylish bathroom after a long day out before heading to bed in the tranquil bedrooms for a peaceful night’s sleep. Too late, I recalled myself,” she tells the increasingly sceptical reader. “A reaction, of course, was what she wanted, what they always wanted.”

There are also some good ideas in here, but sadly I feel like they didn't amount to much. The narrator is not particularly likeable, and none of the other characters is either. They are just a bit flat and a bit sad and a bit uninteresting. The Newall family were major contributors to the building of the first Littleborough Chapel in 1471 and again when Holy Trinity Church was rebuilt in 1820. In the first brisk days of autumn, a woman arrives in Scotland having left her job at an all-girls school in London in mysterious circumstances. Moving into a cottage on the remote estate of Hare House, she begins to explore her new home – a patchwork of hills, moorland and forest. But among the tiny roads, dykes and scattered houses, something more sinister lurks: local tales of witchcraft, clay figures and young men sent mad.

Sally Hinchcliffe’s Hare House is a modern-day witch story, perfect for fans of Pine and The Loney. Either way, it becomes clear that the dying hare on the road is a metaphor both for what is to come and what has been. Did our narrator control its fate, or was it controlling hers? This question of who’s the victim and who’s the perpetrator pertains to the two intertwined mysteries – one in the past and one in the present – that lie at heart of Hinchcliffe’s dark and absorbing second novel. Make your way next door to the lovely kitchen/diner where you'll find all the usual mod cons are provided including a gas hob and oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. The welcome gifts were very much appreciated and we had a fab week as it was very near to the care home we had booked for my mother. Plenty of pots and pans although couldn't find a cheese grater

Gorgeous holiday home surrounded by the open countryside, situated on the cusp of the North York Moors National Park, equidistant to quaint villages and vibrant market towns offering attractions aplenty. The main character was untrustworthy and didn’t seem like the right narrator for this story. Her, and the rest of the characters were, for me, a little too predictable, too much like cookie-cutter characters. I didn’t find the story as tense or as thrilling or as spooky as I thought it would be, and I felt it was almost a bit too timid and conservative for me. Cottage is in an excellent position right in the centre of town and really easy to get everywhere using Chipping Norton as your base." The house was completed in 2018 and has westerly views to Cambridge and the surrounding countryside. There was nothing there, I thought. Nothing but the shadows of the trees, my own imagination. It was only when it moved that I could make it out, the silent hare, turning and loping away into the dark. The cottage is positioned just outside Carlton, a pretty village on the cusp of the North York Moors National Park. This village has a dining pub in the centre while the charming villages of Great Broughton (2 miles) and Osmotherley (9 miles) are worth a visit. Osmotherley in particular is a lovely spot for lunch, with lots of walking routes heading out from the village and across the moors. Lovely cottage in a great location 1 minute walk from centre of village and 1 minute from park which with kids and dog was perfect."

Very traditional which meant a little creaky and front room hard to heat up despite radiator and log burner. Property would also benefit from an iron. was secured to allow the division of their property, (fn. 48) and later the same year both parts of theThe outside space is facing out on to the main road , it is enclosed by hedges but there was a lot of traffic noise from the main . Also the garden was starting to get overgrown it had clearly not been attended to recently . The story is told by an unnamed protagonist who arrives on the remote estate of Hare House in Scotland having left her job at an all-girls school in London in mysterious circumstances. As the story develops it throws up so many questions. Why did the main protagonist leave her job? Why is Janet so strange? What happened to Rory? What is the meaning of the biblical reference? What is the significance of the hares? What is going on with Cass? In recent yearsthe Newall Heritage Trail was created: an approximate two-mile walk exploring the influence the family had on the development of Littleborough. No specific spoilers; but discusses some points that you might want to read about in the book first.
