About this deal

Those with displays show a battery icon and a percentage of the remaining charge after each brushing session. The brush is light and easy to hold, however, the brush head is noticeably larger than the standard brush heads and cut at an angle, so it does not stand up on its own. You still get a satisfying deep clean of the teeth and gums, but the feeling as the head moves over the teeth isn’t as intense. It’s like the dial for invigorating brushing has been turned down from 10 to 7. The slight harshness that has existed now doesn’t. The iO 7 comes with 5 available brushing modes. As we have said before, we aren’t a big fan of modes. We have found that the daily clean mode is pretty much all you need. If this brush causes some discomfort, we can see some value in having a sensitive mode, but remember that using this mode will also reduce the cleaning power.

Oral B Oral-B has gone above & beyond to create a brushing experience that’s in a class of its own. Beyond purely an advance in technology to incorporate world-class engineering - enabling the most thorough, gentle and quiet clean of your life. Beyond design to craft a genuine object of desire – creating a sleek look reserved for the most sought after technology. Sure, when you go from a manual brush to power – it upgrades your clean. But when you go from electric brushing to iO it goes beyond the ordinary to become a truly extraordinary experience that you will see, hear and feel differently. For most, this is not an issue. But, if you have a small mouth or crowded teeth maneuvering the iO head around will feel a bit different and in a few instances pose more of a challenge. The main function of the display is to see and select your different cleaning modes. Given it shows an icon and a text label, this is much more user friendly than the icons only, or no icons of other Oral-B brushes. The Series 5 has 5 cleaning modes (daily clean, sensitive, super sensitive, intense & whitening) compared to the 4 of the Series 4 (daily clean, sensitive, super sensitive & whitening). The extra mode the iO5 has is intense. The iO9 has a power adapter hardwired into the charging stand and a separate, detachable, adapter for the power2go case. The iO10 has just 1 detachable adapter for both the charging stand and power2go case. The Series 8 has 6 cleaning modes (daily clean, sensitive, super sensitive, intense, whiten & gum care) compared to the 5 of the Series 7 (daily clean, sensitive, intense, whiten & gum care). The extra mode the iO8 has is super sensitive. Color or not, they operate in the same way and provide extra functionality. For example, you can change the handle language, change the color of the smart ring or even reset the brush. We do like how the modes are displayed on the screen. This is an upgrade from previous Oral-B brushes which had confusing icons for the different modes. The icons are still here, but the screen also names each mode so it is very easy to tell which one you are in. Failing to do so can potentially lead to mould building up inside the brush head, as demonstrated in this video.

Assuming you want something a bit more capable, then the iO6 represents the best value option. It has many of the most desirable features of the iO range, including the in-handle display. But, it remains relatively affordable and you get the best of both worlds, so to speak. The key benefit of the magnetic charger is it can fully recharge the iO7’s battery in about 3 hours. That’s about a quarter of the time it normally takes to charge an electric toothbrush.PROTECT YOUR GUMS WITH iO PRESSURE SENSOR, Oral-B's only one to signal if you brush TOO HARD, TOO SOFT or JUST RIGHT for an effective and safe clean The case will protect the brush handle from damage and accidental activation, whilst also protecting up to 2 brush heads.

The Series 9 comes with a power2go charging case that allows the iO to be charged inside whereas the Series 8 comes with a standard travel case. When using the app, the built-in 30-second pacing alerts are turned off. This is partly because the app has an on-screen timer you can follow instead. Sure, when you go from a manual brush to power - it upgrades your clean. But when you go from electric brushing to iO it goes beyond the ordinary to become a truly extraordinary experience that you will see, hear and feel differently. The brushing coach divides your mouth into 6 sections, 3 on top and 3 on bottom, and it is challenging to get all the sections clean in just 2 minutes. I found myself brushing for at least 30 more seconds each time to try to get my cleaning score up. I guess this is a good incentive to brush longer. The Series 3 has 3 cleaning modes (daily clean, sensitive & whitening) compared to the 4 of the Series 4 (daily clean, sensitive, super sensitive & whitening). The extra mode the iO4 has is super sensitive. The Series 9 has 7 cleaning modes (daily clean, sensitive, super sensitive, intense, whitening, gum care & tongue clean) compared to the 5 of the Series 7 (daily clean, sensitive, intense, whitening & gum care). The extra modes the iO9 has are super sensitive and tongue clean. Its pressure sensor detects and alerts you when you brush with too much force. It will too reduce bristle movement to protect the teeth until such time as the pressure is relieved. I can’t categorically say what’s causing such variance. My suspicion is the color displays. I will often see it activated as a result of vibration or movement nearby, thus drawing power from the battery. The iO7, 8 and 9 come with a premium magnetic charging stand
