About this deal

Since there is only one button, if you manage to overshoot the desired setting, for example, if you wanted 90 percent brightness but went to 95, you can just continue to past 100 percent, where it will reset the setting back to zero. Using the Windows Update tool is the best option, but there are plenty of other options out there as well. If you have worked through the other fixes and you are still getting a no signal message, then you need to try something a little more on the hardware side of things. Editorial independence means being able to give an unbiased verdict about a product or company, with the avoidance of conflicts of interest. I used the monitor to view office documents, surf the web, and view our selected set of photos and video clips.

AOC I1601FWUX review: A budget portable monitor - PCWorld

When devising the I1601P, AOC clearly prioritized an ultra-sleek and light design over all other considerations. I've also written a host of articles about astronomy, space science, travel photography, and astrophotography for PCMag and its past and present sibling publications (among them, Mashable and ExtremeTech), as well as for the PCMag Digital Edition. The display has a couple of interesting features, including the ability to rotate 90 degrees with automatic pivoting. It is very frustrating, considering that AOC only indicates that it needs a USB-C port without further explanations and that my notebook is not that old either, so I made the purchase of the monitor under this simple premise that was not true. Thunderbolt 3, incidentally, counts DisplayPort over USB as a subset of its functionality, while supporting greater data-throughput speeds. The triangle represents the colors that comprise sRGB—essentially, all the colors that can be made by mixing different percentages of red, green, and blue. Now, if you own a laptop and are someone that does a lot of multi-tasking, you'll know that no matter how large the screen, it just isn't enough space. I currently focus my testing efforts on 3D printers, pro and productivity displays, and drives and SSDs of all sorts.

AOC i1601Fwux - 16 inch FHD USB-C Powered Portable Monitor

The spec details listed a USB-C port, nowhere did it say that a external monitor would not work with it. This can be tedious at times since you are relying on one button but AOC does include software for your computer that will also allow you to control the settings. PCMag is obsessed with culture and tech, offering smart, spirited coverage of the products and innovations that shape our connected lives and the digital trends that keep us talking. The display looks a bit soft and washed out, most likely due to it only supporting 262,000 colors, but things aren't that bad.

inch screen of the I1601FWUX is an IPS (in-plane switching) type, and as you’d expect from a monitor using this technology, viewing angles — on paper, 160 degrees at both orientations — are great. And while the 700:1 contrast might not be suitable for photo editing or other color-specific tasks, it’ll be perfectly suitable for most other use cases you can imagine. If this is the case, the monitor is trying to pull information from a place where there is none or the information is going to a place where it cannot be displayed. The single port also means the monitor doesn’t work as a USB-C hub and can’t connect to multiple inputs for easy switching between devices.

I am installing an additional AOD monitor I1601FWUX with USB-C connector; but unfortunately the laptop does not recognize me as such. Combined with the rubberised coating on the base of the stand, this gives the monitor a solid amount of grip. A portable monitor that simply connects and gives you dual-screen capability on the go sounds like a perfect product for business travelers, and should be easy to recommend.pounds with the included cover), which makes it slimmer and lighter than most tablets and significantly lighter than even most ultraportable laptops. On the whole, it’s a sensible choice if you want a basic USB-C portable monitor that feels more robust than the alternatives. It’s easy to wish for a port or two (say, a downstream USB-C), but the most frustrating outcome of AOC’s design philosophy is the one-button menu navigation.

For brightness and contrast, the power button will let you increase levels incrementally up to 100, dropping back down to zero when you press beyond this.

It doesn't support swivel adjustment (which you can do easily enough by hand), and you can't adjust its height, but you can pivot from landscape to portrait (or back) simply by removing the I1601FWUX from the stand, rotating it 90 degrees, and reattaching it to the stand. The monitor reached a maximum brightness of 228 nits, which is a hair above the promised peak brightness of 220 nits. In every instance, the display connected easily and worked without any additional driver installation or setup. The magnetic strips come into their own again, attaching to the bezel, so that when you’re on the move the I1601FWUX will be less vulnerable to scuffs, nicks, and scratches. Usually the monitor will reset in a few seconds, but if it doesn’t, you can restart your computer and see if that helps.
