About this deal

At the age of 30 he moved to Kenya with his wife Anne to study lions in the Maasai Mara Reserve and began to photograph the beauty of the natural world, flying over the landscape in a balloon. Following the peak in vegetation, the drawdown of atmospheric CO 2 due to photosynthesis is apparent, particularly over the boreal forests. In this newer and smaller book, the print quality has improved remarkably and since shrinking down any photo usually increases sharpness and decreases noise, the photos are actually better looking.

Atmospheric circulation is the large-scale movement of air through the troposphere, and the means (with ocean circulation) by which heat is distributed around Earth. This nighttime view from the International Space Station shows the city lights of the northeastern United States and major urban areas including Long Island, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Washington, D.Sulfur compounds such as hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide (SO 2) may be derived from natural sources or from industrial air pollution. Yann Arthus-Bertrand is a world-renowned aerial photographer, journalist, reporter and environmentalist. It also aims to shed light on the part of his work never before revealed, a memoire of the time when photography was considered to be a tool for providing information rather than a true artistic medium.

Luckily in a smaller format the optical problems are less perceptible and since many of the newer photos have been shot with better equipment, the photos in this book look much better overall. Air pollution is the introduction into the atmosphere of chemicals, particulate matter or biological materials that cause harm or discomfort to organisms. Created by world-famous photographer and environmentalist Yann Arthus- Bertrand, every stunning aerial image tells a story about our changing planet. He gave up the movie industry in 1967 to run the Château de Saint Augustin wildlife park in Château sur Allier (centre of France).Main article: Troposphere A picture of Earth's troposphere with its different cloud types of low to high altitudes casting shadows. The exosphere is the outermost layer of Earth's atmosphere (though it is so tenuous that some scientists consider it to be part of interplanetary space rather than part of the atmosphere). The geological record however shows a continuous relatively warm surface during the complete early temperature record of Earth – with the exception of one cold glacial phase about 2. Aurorae shown here at the bottom of the thermosphere can actually form at any altitude in this atmospheric layer. The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged.

And I strongly believe, in another 16 years, we will still choose to live under the delusion that the world is doing fine. Initially it was booked for a six-month period but after popular demand it remained at the museum for 2 years.

Add your comment hereAlthough I persisted in trying to make contact with a view to this exhibition coming to the West of Scotland eg Glasgow in 2004 when the city was host to the 30th International Geographic Congress, this met with no response. The original "The Earth From The Air" was absolutely massive in size (one of the largest and heaviest books I've ever owned), but one which I was ultimately disappointed in. The impact of population growth and technological progress on the natural equilibrium of the planet has been dramatic, and the world's landscapes have been transformed as a result. The troposphere is bounded above by the tropopause, a boundary marked in most places by a temperature inversion (i.

The depth of the planetary boundary layer ranges from as little as about 100 metres (330ft) on clear, calm nights to 3,000m (9,800ft) or more during the afternoon in dry regions.

Because in an ideal gas of constant composition the speed of sound depends only on temperature and not on pressure or density, the speed of sound in the atmosphere with altitude takes on the form of the complicated temperature profile (see illustration to the right), and does not mirror altitudinal changes in density or pressure. Breakdown of pyrite and volcanic eruptions release sulfur into the atmosphere, which reacts with oxygen and hence reduces its amount in the atmosphere. Atmospheric pressure is the total weight of the air above unit area at the point where the pressure is measured. The air is so rarefied that an individual molecule (of oxygen, for example) travels an average of 1 kilometre (0. Lightning-induced discharges known as transient luminous events (TLEs) occasionally form in the mesosphere above tropospheric thunderclouds.
