Early in the book, we are treated to some funny examples of Matilda getting her own back on her parents, like gluing her father's hat to his head, and sticking a parrot in the chimney to make them think there’s a burglar or ghost around. A second musical version of the novel, Matilda the Musical, written by Dennis Kelly and Tim Minchin and commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company, premiered in November 2010. We see how books can comfort the lonely, can inspire and empower, and there’s nothing I love more than the idea that money is not an obstacle to reading when you have a library card.Soon, she puts her very special talents to work to get the better of Miss Trunchbull and the other unpleasant grown-ups around her - as well as to help warm-hearted class teacher Miss Honey. Dahl went on to create some of the best-loved children's stories of the 20th century, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda and James and the Giant Peach. Scary glimpse into my mind, I conciously pronounce it both ways so I'll have a percentage chance of getting it right. It was the editor's idea to make Matilda an innocent child who loved books, with her powers manifesting as a result of abuse she endured.

Dahl's initial draft for the novel portrayed Matilda as a wicked, irrational girl, her name being drawn from Hilaire Belloc's poem "Matilda Who Told Such Dreadful Lies", who tortured her innocent parents and used her psychokinetic powers to help an unethical teacher win money at horse racing. While I personally love a book about a child prodigy (especially in the area of telekinesis), I had a different reaction to this book while rereading it as an adult. My favorite thing about this story was the mention of other books, especially Nicholas Nickleby and how Mrs. Now it's all about princesses and pretty pretty rainbow ponies, and if one of them gets a cold, it's a fucking big deal. Because of its themes of bullying and mistreatment, it’s recommended that adults first make sure that their children are comfortable with darker themes.
