About this deal

This isn’t an issue if you’re jogging in a quiet park or enjoying music at home, but anywhere with even the slightest hint of hustle and bustle, and you’ll start to have problems. After all, the main motivator was obviously to create a pair of sports headphones that were as compact and comfortable to wear as possible, without completely isolating you from your surroundings. The hooks are made of skin-friendly silicone but contain titanium wires to help them maintain their shape so that you can twist them into the perfect fit around your ears.

The size comes from the cantilevered silicone-wrapped titanium earpieces that want to be guided along behind the ears when you put on the open-ears, which are available in beige or black. Unlike traditional earbuds, which sit in your ear canal and block out external sounds, open-ear headphones use Bone Conduction Technology or DirectPitchTM Technology to transmit sound to your ears without obstructing them. So you should already have music playing when putting on the OpenFit to help it fit perfectly according to acoustic criteria. Unfortunately, the earphones don’t support Bluetooth Multipoint, which is a strange decision since Shokz’s other headphones support it. Some of our partners may process your data as a part of their legitimate business interest without asking for consent. You get surprisingly good noise isolation with the OpenFits, but nothing compared to the immersion on offer from these Beats buds. Like the JBL Soundgear Sense reviewed in parallel, there is something magical about the Shokz OpenFit.

Here on STEREO GUIDE – the online hi-fi-magazine – you will find profound and independent coverage on bluetooth speakers, headphones, home-hifi gear and in-car entertainment reviewed by experienced journalists. They’re also more expensive than traditional sporty truly wireless earbuds with ear hook designs that have impressed us like the Soundcore Sport X10 and JBL Endurance Peak 3. The earphones have excellent bass response thanks to Shokz’s proprietary OpenBass technology, though it’s not entirely on par with other premium earphones like the AirPods Pro. Kicking off my shock-themed playlist with AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck”, I was treated to the OpenFit’s effective stereo separation; the right bud opened proceedings with a tight guitar riff, before the faint chanting, and eventually beating drums, joined in on both sides.

with support for the SBC and AAC codecs – the latter is new for the OpenFit, allowing Apple users to enjoy higher quality audio.

Lots of audio and wearable tech brands say you’ll forget you’re wearing their gadgets and I’ve never believed them. Sound quality is more consistent than bone-conduction alternatives, battery life is reasonable, and the headphones are incredibly comfortable. Yes, history repeats itself here in our review: recordings with natural instruments, especially stringed instruments, sounded downright magical over the open-ears, with fabulous fine dynamics and a very generous, authentic sense of space. Its radical open-ear design, which may also have inspired JBL’s Soundgear Sense, also requires certain compromises. But these are an excellent pair of buds and a good alternative to bone conduction headphones, bringing you big sound in an open-ear design. It’s one of the main reasons we don’t recommend using open-backed headphones outside of quiet, private rooms. They then also seem somewhat diffuse and harsh in the midrange, which spoils the performance of voices in particular. It then compresses and sometimes distorts the bass reproduction even when using 80 percent of the volume control. Under the premise of connecting device 1, put the headphones into the box, long press to enter pairing, you can connect device 2.

There is one innate drawback to this open-ear design, however – the OpenFit offer nothing in the way of sound isolation. However, as a pair of earphones for everyday use, the OpenFit is an excellent addition to the Shokz lineup. What those battery numbers don’t illustrate is performance at different volumes or when using more powerful EQ modes. The instrument separation is most effective in tracks with a complex mid-section, such as Billy Idol’s “Shock To The System”. Download the Shokz App to enjoy MultiPoint Pairing, personalized EQ modes, customizable button functions, access real-time battery information, and receive firmware updates. Compared to our headphone preference curve, the OpenFit’s response is compromised, with a somewhat trebly sound, but you’ll still hear the kick drum and bass parts. The OpenFit uses traditional air conduction, not bone conduction, which makes it different from other Shokz headphones.
