Product Information

An emollient, moisturising and protective lotion containing 5% white soft paraffin, 4% light liquid paraffin and 3% glycerol . May also be used as a gentle facial cleanser, avoiding foaming soaps which can be potential irritants. Suitable for all ages, this cream is non-greasy and easily absorbed into the skin, and is free from fragrance, colouring and SLS.

Paraffin-free emollients should be reserved for patients who are intolerant/unsuitable for paraffin containing emollients due to increased fire hazard risks despite appropriate counselling. Lotions are good for hairy or damaged areas of skin (such as weeping eczema – where pus is seeping out of damaged areas of skin).

It can be used as a soap substitute and is free from sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), parabens, and perfumes.Emollients are best applied after washing your hands, taking a bath or showering because this is when the skin most needs moisture. Your doctor or pharmacist will talk to you about which type of emollient will work best for your skin condition. The 500g ointment pot now comes with two free handy spatulas (dishwasher-safe) to decant the ointment, so that patients do not use their fingers to remove it from the pot and potentially infect the contents. An emollient cream with 27% paraffins for the relief of symptoms of flaking, dry skin, ichthyosis, dermatitis, dry stage of eczema and dry cases of psoriasis. Epimax Ointment is an emollient for the relief of moderate/severe dry skin, eczema and psoriasis, suitable for overnight use or as a bath additive.

At SFH if needed for other uses eg for lips, then use yellow soft paraffin, available from NHS supplies. Emollient soap substitutes that are used instead of normal soap in the bath or shower are not usually available on the NHS. If you find you are sensitive to the cream stop use and consult a pharmacist or doctor if you have cause forconcern. Also suitable for the relief of eczema, psoriasis, and other dry skin conditions, it can be used by all ages (including children over the age of one month). As a soap substitute: Take a small amount of Zeroderm Ointment from the tub, lather it under warm water and use as required when washing or in the shower.Elave Sensitive Ointment replaces skins oils and forms a water-proof barrier on the skin’s surface preventing water loss. It also contains paraffinum liquidum and caprylic/capric triglyceride to hydrate and help retain moisture in the skin. AproDerm Ointment is an intensely moisturising, occlusive, leave-on emollient that is suitable from birth and free from preservatives, common sensitisers and irritants. Rarely, mild reactions such as skin rash may occur, or allergic skin reactions on extremely sensitive skin. Everyday soaps, shampoos and shower gels usually dry out the skin and can make skin conditions like eczema worse.

Any other emollient with low percentage urea can be used for maintenance following the treatment phase. Mix a small amount (around teaspoonful) of leave-on emollient or soap substitute in the palm of your hand with a little warm water and spread it over damp or dry skin. Elave Sensistive Lotion is a light moisturising lotion formula, which is quickly absorbed by the skin helping to relieve the itch of dry skin.AproDerm Emollient Cream is slightly richer than AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream, however, is still light and easily absorbed, whilst being cooling and moisturising.
