The Jim Beam was less bourbon’y, with the oak and vanilla notes being less prominent. However, the sweetness was more caramel, and the taste was a bit more complex. It also had a bit more of a pepper bite. We tried it neat and with ice, and we were overwhelmed with the rich notes of cherry tarts, ground almonds, and vanilla.
Single Barrel: A bourbon made using single barrels, providing a higher range of variation in flavor and the chance at specific, unique characteristics. Evan Williams Bottled in Bond doesn’t normally need all of that exposition behind it. It’s a bourbon that many of my bourbon drinking friends associate with an easy drinker for a great price. The nose is fairly light but very appealing. There are some lighter aromas of fruit, both citrus and tropical. The vanilla is evident, but not overpowering. Some "premium" whiskeys really are quite terrible, while some mass market products are good enough to pour into a decanter and serve to the Duke of Edinburgh. A+: A masterpiece and one of the ten best whiskeys of its type. Above five stars. This is the entry I sweated over the most. I really like the juice this craft distillery puts out. But it’s really hard to get past the price point for half bottles. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it does create a pause where you wonder if it’s worth it.

The Bottled-in-Bond of 1897 is one of the highest standards regarding the quality of distilled spirits, and it is meant to protect consumers from buying poor-quality whiskeys [ 1].Heaven Hill’s Evan Williams brand has been budget-priced and widely distributed for several years, but that hasn’t undercut the substantial quality of what the distillery is crafting out of their Louisville campus. Their standard Evan Williams Single Barrel Bourbon is a textbook example of an excellent single barrel bourbon at a great price. B and B-: Good and above average. The best of the mass market whiskeys fit in this category, as do the bulk of the premium brands. A B- is three stars.
Speaking of Heaven Hill, all of their whiskies are distilled at Bernheim Distillery which is located in Louisville. From there, the whiskey is barreled up and matured on one of six different campus’s that Heaven Hill owns.Each year, Evan Williams honors U.S. military veterans through its American-Made Heroes program by sharing individual inspiring stories and producing limited-edition bottles. In 2020, it expanded the program with the American-Made Heroes Foundation Fund. The mission of the foundation is to raise public awareness for causes impacting the veteran community, and to support nonprofit organizations that provide aid to veterans and their families in the wake of Covid-19. Evan Williams Honey Bourbon is quite easily found around the country at most local liquor stores. Some of our favorite national retailers that carry the bourbon include “Total Wine & More,” “Spec’s Wine, Spirits, & Finer Foods,” and “Walmart.” How expensive is Evan Williams Honey Bourbon? While it has the traditional bourbon notes of toasty oak and vanilla on the nose, there is an element of corn syrup floating around. The nose is very one-dimensional and not layered or complex. In 1795 he founded Jim Beam and used his excess grain to distil whiskey. He began selling it under the name of Old Jake Beam, and in 1820 his son David began managing the distillery. The distillery and brand grew from strength to strength. In 2014, Suntory Holdings acquired Jim Beam to create Beam Suntory. Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon is sweet with caramel and vanilla, along with some nuttiness, citrus, cherry, licorice, oak, cinnamon, and clove. It has minimal burn without much complexity. The VerdictThe nose has both vanilla buttercream and amber caramel with funky vanilla buttercream notes thrown in, all at different points in this huge complex monolithic nose. A hint of green apple creeps in before it moves on to a dry earthy nuance. Some very lightly roasted oak peppercorns and dried orange peel come out and join the fruit and oak and give you a nice touch of sweetness. The smell of alcohol dominates, but this time it is followed by a strong smell of barley malt, which indicates that the alcohol has been distilled from corn. Baking spices are added to the smell.
