About this deal

I did Media Studies AT People’s College back in the 90s and if I had delivered some of the footage quality seen in this documentary then I would have had the VHS tape thrown back at me and told to reshoot it. A great sports documentary with a nostaligic trip down memory lane as well as moving storylines from today, particularly Garry Birtles story.

Local Heroes is a sports documentary following the careers of three iconic Nottingham Forest players. The story of Forest’s glory years under Brian Clough is well-known, but this new movie sheds light on a different side of the tale. Cameraman unable to cope with contrast so whites bleached out, shadows blocky-blacks and unde-exposed: why? Read all The story of how three young working-class lads from Nottingham went on to become unlikely heroes and reach the pinnacle of professional football when unfashionable Nottingham Forest, under the mercurial Brian Clough, won the European Cup not just once, but twice, in 1979 and 198. A further film from Hayao Miyazaki looks on the cards, as he - thankfully - shows no sign of retiring after all.Unauthorized use and/or duplication of this material without express and written permission from this site’s author and/or owner is strictly prohibited. Two European Cups, a league title, two European Super Cups, four League Cups and close to two decades of cherished memories - Cloughie really was unique.

No spoilers from me but from the beautifully filmed, not sentimenal and spot on direction of John Warrington to the engaging narration Gary Webster , this is simply a brilliant film. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others.

It would have been easy to sanitise this by getting the boys on a golf course in Dubai or a stark studio somewhere and recording the thing in a condensed time frame. The technical side of this documentary really lets down what is actually being said by Anderson, Birtles and Woodcock. I guess the question that we all have as Forest fans is: How do you make a documentary about any/all of the Miracle Men without going over the same ground time and again? Three footballers recount their climb to the top of the professional game during a period of austerity and economic turmoil.

There is footage so dark in this documentary that you can hardly see anything, and it’s just a person sat in a room. Now the story of this powerful piece of footballing history is told in a brand-new feature-length documentary which is set for its World Premiere at home in Nottingham, on 25 May 2023, followed by a limited theatrical release. Local Heroes" is set against the cultural, economic, and social backdrop of Britain in the 1970's and is a deeply personal film in which the three recount their climb to the top of the professional game during a period of austerity and economic turmoil. So when I got the chance, some 30 years later, to watch ‘Local Heroes’ and also record a podcast with Forest legend Viv Anderson, I was thrilled. However, there are some intriguing bits in this documentary about their own personal lives that I don’t believe have been talked about too much, if at all.Birtles, who started his career as a carpet fitter, went on to play for England and Manchester United and Woodcock’s career saw him play for Arsenal and Germany’s FC Cologne. The following year, they won the European Cup and as holders qualified for the following year, and won it again!

Local Heroes Documentary directed by John Warrington depicting the rise of footballers Viv Anderson, Garry Birtles and Tony Woodcock in the 1970s. Anderson made history as the first black footballer to play for England, he went on to have many wins, both on and off the pitch, he was awarded an MBE in 2000 and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 2004. Despite the odds being against them, they played a vital role in Forest’s European Cup triumphs in 1979 and 1980 under legendary manager Brian Clough.Trailer drop LOCAL HEROES an inspirational documentary about Nottingham Forest’s Football legends Viv Anderson, Garry Birtles and Tony Woodcock who triumphed over adversity to win the European Cup in 1979 and 1980 under legendary football manager Brian Clough. A new film telling the inspirational story of three Nottingham Forest legends has its world premiere later this month.
