About this deal

Sage Dual Boiler espresso machine, also known as the Breville Dual Boiler outside of Europe, is a rarity. This plastic part is actually quite sturdy, I wouldn't imagine it would need changing within a few years. This is easily controlled through an intuitive dial that allows for variation from coarse to very fine grinds. Choose between one shot, two shots or manual control over how much espresso ends up in your cup for the perfect dose every time. Bar Italian Pump: Dual 15 bar Italian made pumps allow simultaneous milk texturing and espresso extraction.

I don’t know much about the Graef, I’ve had a look, looks interesting – I notice it uses Thermo blocks not dual boilers, I can’t see what kind of group it is and whether the pressure is limited to 9 bar, etc. Following The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations, we will accept items back even if you have opened the Products to inspect them.

Even though the average dirt cheap coffee maker offers this option, it’s unaccountably absent from nearly every high-end espresso maker, forcing the purchase of extra gadgets like smart plugs. These machines are made by Breville Worldwide, and they would be known as Breville here in the UK, except for the fact that they sold the brand name in Europe in the 80s. Any espresso machine can develop bigger issues requiring major repair jobs, but from looking through the huge thread on the Home Barista forums and from speaking to engineers, I don't believe you're any more likely to encounter such an issue with a Sage Dual Boiler than any other dual boiler espresso machine. You can save a significant amount of money opting for one of Sage’s smaller models like the Infuser, which is our pick for best espresso machine this year, or even the Duo Temp or the Cafe Roma. Going back to my personal experience with this machine so far, the only negative thing I can mention is something beyond Sage's control, and something you'll find on other recently manufactured home espresso machines, which is the 15-minute auto-off due to this EC directive.

It actually looks fairly straight-forward, I'm sure I could do it – and that's saying something – but it doesn't look like a five-minute job. Even so, it was still better than the coffee bags and instant that I have been drinking since it stopped working and I really miss having an espresso machine. If you just want to get a machine out of the box and press a button, meaning a coffee machine for you is literally just a means to an end, and you'd rather pinch yourself really hard somewhere soft than to start a new hobby – then what you need is a bean to cup coffee machine, not a traditional espresso machine. Sage (Breville worldwide, they're sold as Sage in the UK as they sold the brand name here in the 80s) really are clever, they don't tend to do things the same as everyone else.PIDs are a modern addition to espresso makers, providing far superior temperature control when compared with the pressure states found on older or cheaper models ( 1). The pump in the Breville dual boiler is a fairly standard espresso pump, the Ulka EX5, which is a 15 bar pump used on various other machines. In my opinion, the complete beginner would probably be better off starting with the Sage dual boiler than just about any of the other more entry-level machines, including all of the cheaper Sage espresso machines.

Pump Pressure - 15 Bar Italian Pump - limited via an Over Pressure Valve for optimal extraction pressure. From there, it’s a matter of hitting the right button to dispense your coffee: manual free pours until you hit it again, the single shot delivers coffee for the set time and is designed for one cup, the two-cup button also delivers coffee for a set amount of time and is designed for two cups. There are filters for single and double shots of espresso, which come in single and dual wall varieties. I think it's a brilliant machine regardless of your home barista skill, being just as good a choice for seasoned home baristas as for folk who are yet to pull their first shot. If I were left to my own devices, I might turn the machine on, let it warm up (5/6 minutes) get caught up with something, make a coffee an hour later, and have it in my head to make another one 10 mins later which turns into another hour.
