About this deal

The white build up could be a couple of issues, if you have used the Osmo Polyx Oil Raw , this product has a small amount of white pigment to counteract the darkening you get with a clear oil. Against a darker wood the white will show through and you get that milky appearance. Applying the product too generously and insufficient ventilation lead to delays in drying time and the typical smell of oil. In short, no. Varnish is a coating type product that coats the wood with a plastic shell or skin. Wood oils work by penetrating into the wood but can’t with a varnish covering the wood grain. All varnish coatings need to be fully removed by sanding before an oil can be applied. Wood surfaces treated with Polyx®-Oil Tints are easy to maintain. Remove coarse dirt with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner. To clean, add Osmo Wash and Care concentrate to mop water and clean the surface with a damp (not wet!) mop. A. In short, 'No'. Oiled and waxed finishes on floors are 'Micro-porous' which means that although the wood is protected, it can still breath as it is not completely sealed as it would be with a varnish.

Apply a thin coat to the clean and dry surface along the wood grain with an Osmo Soft Tip Brush, Microfibre Roller or Osmo Floor Brush and spread well. Thank you for getting in touch. Its difficult to give a definitive answer to that without a little more information. My first thoughts would be that Polyx oil is likely to be fine for your table, however it can depend on the wood type, the preparation carried out and how the product was applied.Osmo Polyx® oils are developed from natural oils and waxes to help and provide the most hardwearing and durable protection for wooden flooring and furniture. Application of top coat of clear Osmo Polyx®-Oil Original can be carried out once the first coat has dried. However, if the first coat was a coloured Osmo finish ( eg Polyx®-Oil Tint or Wood Wax Finish Transparent) wait approx. 24hrs before applying Osmo Polyx®-Oil Original clear top coat. Matt – Gives you a flat matt look and feel Semi Matt – A slight sheen added to the wood for those who don’t want dead matt Satin – The halfway house between matt and gloss Gloss – Gives the light a good surface to reflect off Please Note: All other oils in the Osmo range will give a darker look than Osmo Raw. This is what sets it apart, as it really gives that natural, untreated look. Please be advised that 125ml tins are printed in German only. Drying time on the Osmo Polyx Oil Raw is 24 hours, and it dries to a lovely natural matt finish [rub the board]. Once dried you need to lightly sand with a finishing pad – this helps the second coat soak in and gives you better finish all round. The end is in sight! Now apply the second coat as you did the first and remove all excess and you’re done!

Now we come to the Polyx family. I think this is the one that trips people up a bit. It is comprised of five individual products. Four are clear, and one is not. Let’s start with the one that is not - Osmo Effect/Neutral/Raw 3041 (I have seen it referred to all three ways which also adds to the confusion). It has a 2% white tint in it to counter the natural ambering of lighter woods, such as maple, ash, and white oak. You can use either 1 or 2 coats, depending on the look you are after. You will never get a truly white finish from it because it only has so much white in it. It has more of a matte finish to it and should be topcoated with a clear Osmo finish. I have used it on both maple and ash, and the wood looks almost bare afterwards. Osmo Polyx Oil Raw retains the 'raw', light characteristics of untreated wood, meaning no more 'permanent wet look'. The ingredients use a small amount of white pigment to neutralise this darkening effect which generally occurs after application of a clear wood oil. The end result is a smooth beautiful finish with nearly-invisible protection. Keeps light interior woodwork and flooring looking light, ideal for Scandi-style interiors. For optimal cleaning of floors treated with Osmo Polyx Oil, we recommend the Osmo Floor Maintenance Kit. Oils enhance the natural tone of wood (permanent wet effect). Applying the product too generously and insufficient ventilation lead to delays in drying time.Osmo Polyx Oil Raw 3044. This will lessen the wet look on lighter timbers such as Oak or Pine. Raw gets mixed results on hardwoods especially darker hardwoods as it contains white pigment. If you are looking to change the colour of your wood then you can go across to the The original clear hard wax oil designed for most wooden floors & surfaces. Available in Satin, Matt, Semi-Matt and Glossy
