About this deal

To put that into perspective, I gained thirteen inches on my shoulders (39 to 52″) and five inches around my biceps (10 to 15″), whereas my neck grew by less than an inch. It’s not likely to result in injury; if it does, it’s likely to be a minor muscle strain that heals on its own within a couple of weeks. Harnesses are safer for your dog to wear when running than a standard dog lead and collar – and this one from Neewa is one step ahead of the rest. My older dog walks beautifully with or without the harness – and with the younger one, the harness keeps her in check.

As if it weren’t obvious initially, it’s tough to develop a strong and thick neck without using some sort of neck harness to introduce more workouts into your routine. You also need to be actively improving the mobility and range of motion you’re capable of, while also improving your ability to stabilize loads.

It could also get caught on something, may get chewed and ingested and could even be a choking hazard for your dog. But neither bodybuilders nor powerlifters train their necks, so I had assumed it must be dangerous or unnecessary. Regarding powerlifting and strength training, people are judged based on their strength at the barbell squat, deadlift, and bench press.

Once my neck gets thicker though, I’m going to work my way up to 20 pounds and (hopefully) even higher than that!

My dog goes running with a friend and his Spaniels and they wear proper harnesses to keep everyone as safe as possible. These are primarily used to build broader shoulders, but they’re also great for bulking up your traps. By training your neck, you aren’t just minimizing the likelihood of developing a concussion - you also are minimizing the likelihood of developing spinal injuries in the cervical and thoracic spine.
