This is in contrast with the more rigid foam side panels of the Osprey Porter 46, which made packing a breeze. Fabric is treated in PFC/PFAS free DWR to create a dirt and water repellent barrier, keeping your load clean and dry. As an added benefit, the shoulder straps and hip belt can be zipped away behind a flap so you can easily and safely check it on a plane or carry it without fear of getting a strap caught. The only negative is that backpacks that have the daypack attached can be a bit bulky and unbalanced when they’re on your back.

The Farpoint 55 itself is 3 cm deeper than Ryanair allows but I am pretty positive and relaxed that I will have no problems since there still are the compressions straps. They’re pretty large, so you feel like you’re getting a hug while you have the straps engaged, which is comfortable and helps shift the weight from your shoulders to your hips. I use a Kestrel 38 which is a great size for carry-on but still rugged and comfortable enough for serious trekking.
