A small army of female guest-vocalists are featured (ethereal Fraser, soulfully robust Shara Nelson, wistfully precise Tracey Thorn), but the tracks never lose their dusty menace.Another advandtage is the fact that I think the mix of older and more recent tracks is consistent, where with The Prodigy I think the old tracks didn't fit too well for a mix with the more recent ones. The band unfurl their armoury of chilled beats, dub-drenched basslines, shimmering vocals and brooding strings, reminding you of just how influential the Bristol trio have been on down-tempo music in the UK. As I associate The Prodigy to what's best out of the 'energic pole', I think you can already guess, I do the same for Massive Attack with the 'chilling pole'.

Much of the older tunes sound remarkably contemporary, which isn't surprising when you consider Massive Attack have always mixed styles in radical, new ways. s Mezzanine (containing the top 10 single " Teardrop") and 2003's 100th Window charted in the UK at number one. Strings arranged by Craig Pruess (track 7), Wil Malone (track 8), Neil Davidge (track 10), Craig Armstrong (track 13), and Michael Jennings (track 14). The group has only released four proper albums over the past 15 years: one absolute must-have masterpiece, two excellent long-players of languidly existential mood-music, and one total piece of shit. On both discs the 3 letter abbreviations for each of the songs/ video tracks are running along the inner edge of the disc, with the rest of the disc being pure sliver with no title information on it beside basic copyright information. With gems including "Teardrop", "Inertia Creeps", "Protection" and "Unfinished Sympathy", Collected is an ear-pricking panorama of the '90s. Collected may not be a substitute for grabbing the group's essential records, but you'll be happy to have it the next time you end up on a two-engine propeller plane.Notes: The tracks on this release are all edited snippets of the full songs, which explains the abbreviated duration times. It comes in a different packaging to the original Special Edition release and also ditches the DualDisc and instead has two separate discs for CD2 and the Videos (which now comes on a DVD). There are so many many personal favourites on this compilation that it would be useless to name them: you just need to have a look at the tracklisting, most of it is made of my personal favourites.
