About this deal

Overall, the book is completely amazing and I just can’t understand how could this book be ever rated by 1 or 2 stars! Though the book may seem complex at times, it still provides a clear understanding of important brain functions such as metacognition and neuroplasticity. Acclaimed for its clear, friendly style, excellent illustrations, leading author team, and compelling theme of exploration, Neuroscience: Exploring the Brain, Fourth Edition takes a fresh, contemporary approach to the study of neuroscience, emphasizing the biological basis of behaviour.

D. in physiology and pharmacology from Duke University in 1979, and then pursued postdoctoral training with David Prince and Stephen Waxman at the Stanford University School of Medicine.Fox and Dorothea Doctors Fox Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Science and Professor of Neuroscience at Brown University. Its way of simplifying complex concepts in a digestible writing without losing its powerful context is entirely captivating.

As a chemist, I found it inspiring and fundamental to the furthering my understanding of chemistry/biochemistry. He has served on the editorial boards of numerous journals, including the Journal of Neuroscience, Journal of Neurophysiology, Cerebral Cortex, and Brain Structure and Function. I entered a Doctorate level Advanced Neuroscience class in 2013 without any previous history in Biology (beyond 1 semester of 7th grade Bio and high school Marine Biology -- oy! In the brain vasculature and mid-brain coronal/transverse section drawings, there is some confusing imagery that doesn't seem to match with its orthographic cross-section. Otherwise the book was both a good textbook and an interesting helpful book to pass my neuroscience class.A neuroanatomy atlas insert (Appendix to Chapter 7) provides large images that highlight the anatomy of the brain, along with a self-quiz that gives students an opportunity to check their understanding. The book includes clear illustrations and diagrams (that is, as clear as diagrams of brain wiring or second messenger cascades can be). Love Neuroscience and this textbook was interesting to read but I think it needed more helpful summary of the end of the chapters or quizzes. He made fundamental discoveries on bidirectional synaptic plasticity, metaplasticity, the molecular basis of amblyopia (a cause of visual disability in children), and the pathophysiology of fragile X syndrome (the most common inherited cause of intellectual disability and autism).
