About this deal

We provide physiotherapy for all patients staying on the plastic surgery wards. Treatment is followed up with physiotherapists based in the plastic surgery dressing unit, and in the rehabilitation department.

Like a skin graft, skin flaps for the hand involve taking skin from another part of the body. But this procedure uses skin that has its own blood supply. That’s because the section of skin that is used includes the underlying blood vessels, fat, and muscles. Flaps may be used when an area that is missing skin does not have a good blood supply. This may be because of the location, damage to the vessels, or extensive tissue damage. Closed reduction and fixation Much of your follow-up will be with our trusted team of therapists, rather than the surgeons, as access to and time in the therapy clinics is much more flexible than appointments with the surgeons. If your therapist feels that you need review by a hand surgeon, this will be organised promptly. Referrals If you’re considering breast surgery for either cosmetic appearance or to help with medical issues, our Plastic + Hand team has the most qualified breast surgeons in Maine. Urgent: injuries such as open fractures, damage to flexor tendons or major nerves, or injuries from dogbites, fenceposts, glass etc, that need an operation ideally within 48 hours, although slightly longer may be acceptable following review by the surgical team.If plastic surgery is required, patients are referred to the 7.30am Early Bird Plastic Trauma assessment clinic. Parents may be given preparation instructions e.g fasting overnight Patients will often complain of tingling in the hand, and pain after using their affected hand. Treatment options include steroid injections, physiotherapy, and carpal tunnel release. For more information, see the Geeky Medics guide to carpal tunnel syndrome. Ulnar paradox This procedure is done to help treat compartment syndrome. This painful condition occurs when there is swelling and increased pressure in a small space, or compartment, in the body. Often this is caused by an injury. This pressure can interfere with blood flow to the body tissues and destroy function. In the hand, a compartment syndrome may cause severe and increasing pain and muscle weakness. Over time, it can cause a change in color of the fingers or nailbeds. We assumed that all these extra attachments would give similar results, but we found big differences in quality. Members can see what these differences were. However, if you frequently cook several portions at once, or do lots of baking, you might want to consider a food processor or stand mixer instead. These take up more space, but are better for this. At MFT we have an experienced and nationally-renowned team of hand physiotherapists and occupational therapists who share care of our patients with the surgeons. They are responsible for fitting and adjusting splints, advising on appropriate exercises, monitoring healing, and working with our surgeons to monitor progress of our patients.

The four lumbricals are thin worm-like muscles that flex the metacarpophalangeal joints and extend the interphalangeal joints. They arise from the tendons of flexor digitorum profundus and are the only muscles in the human body to arise from the tendons of another muscle. Figure 4.
